Derbyshire haven't beaten Nottinghamshire at the County Ground since 2005 - and they never looked likely in this game in front of the capacity crowd.

With only Wayne Madsen really causing the Notts bowling a few problems, top scoring with 36, Derbyshire never set the Outlaws anything to test their very experienced top order.

Nottinghamshire won with just under three overs to spare thanks to Michael Lumb (49) and James Taylor (34).

Nottinghamshire won the toss and elected to field, Derbyshire naming an unchanged side from the one that beat Lancashire on Tuesday night. Nottinghamshire made only one change with Jake Ball replacing Ajmal Shazhad.

With only one run coming from the first over, Nottinghamshire made the breakthrough in the second when Wes Durston wafted at a wide delivery and was caught behind.

Chesney Hughes played an awful shot when he seemed to stop in his follow through and was caught at point.

Shivnarine Chanderpaul and Wayne Madsen shared a useful partnership in the win over Lancashire and thoughts turned to them again when they put on 36 in 35 deliveries. There was no heroics from Chanderpaul this time though as he feathered a delivery from Jake Ball and was caught behind.

Wayne Madsen was superbly run out by Chris Read, when he and Dan Redfern tried a quick single and Read threw the stumps down at the non-strikers end. Madsen top scored with 36 from 28 balls, the Derbyshire skipper hitting four fours in his innings.

Redfern was next to go when he was caught behind by Read from the bowling of Samit Patel for just 3.

Tom Poynton tried to steady the ship with Albie Morkel, but Poynton was clean bowled by Jake Ball for 6.

Jonathan Clare couldn't reproduce his form from Headingley a week ago and was caught at long off by Taylor from Patel. The England international then made it two wickets in two balls when he bowled Albie Morkel for 9.

Such was the pressure that Derbyshire were under from the impressive Nottinghamshire attack, it took them 52 deliveries to hit a boundary. The Falcons brought up their three figures in the 19th over.

Tim Groenewald and David Wainwright managed to put on 24 in 22 deliveries before Groenewald tried one big shot too many and was caught at deep mid-wicket by Steven Mullaney for 14.

Former Nottinghamshire player Mark Footitt managed to scramble a two off the last ball thanks to a dropped catch from James Taylor, Footitt skied the ball and Taylor running back, almost managed to get both hands on it.

Derbyshire closed on 115-9.

Nottinghamshire's reply got off at a canter with England international opening pair Alex Hales and Michael Lumb putting on 42 for the first wicket, before Hales was bowled by Wainwright for 10.

Derbyshire needed to take wickets and managed another the very next ball, when Wainwright had Riki Wessells leg before wicket.

Despite losing the two wickets, Nottinghamshire were never behind the rate and were looking increasingly comfortable. Taylor and Lumb had managed to put 50 runs on before Derbyshire managed to grab another wicket.

Skipper Wayne Madsen was in reflective mood post match, The toss was quite important. 130-140 was probably a good score on here.Lumb who was on 49 was involved in a mix up with Taylor and was run out. Lumb hit six fours and one six in his innings - and he made it look so easy.

James Taylor was caught at first slip for 34 but with Notts only requiring 13, Samit Patel brought up the winning runs with over two overs to spare.

Skipper Wayne Madsen (left) was in reflective mood post match, "The toss was quite important. 130-140 was probably a good score on here.

"They have some good players and they had a little luck at the start of their innings.

"We kept getting started and then kept losing wickets in our innings, but we'll bounce back and look to take our form in this competition into the Championship."
