Mass Tree Plant At Derbyshire County Cricket Club
Wednesday 22nd February 2012
165 trees have been planted by Million Trees Derbyshire at the home of Derbyshire County Cricket Club.
The trees are a mixture of native species planted around the edges of the ground to provide shelter and improve the landscape.
Two Cricket Bat Willows were planted by Derbyshire all-rounders Jonathan Clare and Garry Park, which will grow into large specimens and will symbolically celebrate the playing of cricket at the ground for 144 years since 1868. READ MORE...

Falcons Opt Against Leek Return
Thursday 9th February 2012 Derbyshire County Cricket Club has elected not to return to Leek in 2012 but has left the door open for future seasons.
The venue for the Friends Life t20 match against Durham Dynamos on Wednesday 20th June has, therefore, been confirmed as the County Ground, Derby, with a 7pm start.
Leek's Highfield ground in the Staffordshire Moorlands hosted a Clydesdale Bank 40 match versus Essex Eagles in 2010 and the Friends Life t20 visit of Warwickshire Bears the following year. READ MORE...
Derbyshire CCC Confirm Khawaja Return
Monday 30th January 2012 Usman Khawaja has been named as Derbyshire's second overseas player for the 2012 season.
The Australian international will jet to the UK ahead of the Friends Life t20 opener versus Lancashire Lightning on Thursday 14th June before remaining with the Club for the remainder of the season.

Kevin Dean To Join The Derbyshire CCC Committee
Tuesday 24th January 2012 Derbyshire County Cricket Club is delighted to announce the co-option of former player Kevin Dean to the Club's General Committee.
The 36-year-old left-arm seamer made his First Class debut for the county in 1996 staying with the Club throughout his career.
Dean was the joint leading wicket taker in English First Class cricket in 2002 claiming 83 victims. He took 401 First Class wickets in total at an average of 26 and a further 181 Limited Overs victims, as well as completing two hat-tricks... READ MORE...

Following Luke Sutton's retirement, Wayne Madsen has been appointed Captain of Derbyshire and Head Coach Karl Krikken confirms Tom Poynton takes over as wicket keeper.
Batsman Madsen, 27, has made 39 first-class appearances since scoring 170 not out on debut against Gloucestershire in 2009 - the highest ever score by a Derbyshire debutant - and since compiled 2,476 first-class runs at an average of 35.88, including nine centuries, while Poynton is an Academy graduate who made his first-class debut aged 17 in 2007. Derbyshire CCC Captain Luke Sutton Retires Over Health Issues
Thursday 8th December 2011 After a three-club career with Somerset, Lancashire and Derbyshire, Luke Sutton has decided to retire from the game.
The decision comes in the wake of an exhausting 2011 cricket season after which Derbyshire’s wicketkeeper-batsman and club captain sought treatment for depression and anxiety.

2012 Fixtures Released
Tuesday 29th November 2011 The release of the 2012 fixtures has revealed Derbyshire will face Yorkshire in five days of local derby cricket at Chesterfield in July.
After starting the six-day festival at Queen's Park with a match against the Unicorns on Sunday 15th July, Derbyshire will start a four day LV = County Championship match against Yorkshire on Wednesday 18th July and a Clydesdale Bank 40 fixture against the same opposition on the following Sunday. Guptill Opts For Derbyshire Return
Friday 18th November 2011 Martin Guptill has boosted Derbyshire by announcing he will return as overseas player in 2012.
The New Zealand international has opted for a return to the County Ground at the expense of a possible berth in the Indian Premier League.

All Not Out At Brearley Park
Friday 28th October 2011 Over the summer Chesterfield Borough Council has led a project that has resulted in a local cricket club setting up a junior section for 2012.
Over 100 young people from Old and New Whittington, aged between 8-16 years old, took part in a variety of activities at Brearley Park. The activities were delivered by local agencies and voluntary sports clubs and funded by Barclays Spaces for Sports.
The traditional sports of cricket, volleyball and rounders were on offer as well as the more extreme ones such as skateboarding, KMX karting, a climbing wall, BMX riding and even body zorbs. READ MORE...

Wednesday 26th October 2011 Peter Burgoyne has penned a new two year contract with Derbyshire.
The 17-year-old all-rounder will represent the Club on summer contract terms whilst completing his education in 2012 before becoming a full-time professional for the following campaign.

Friday 30th September 2011 David Wainwright has joined Derbyshire on a two-year-contract after leaving Yorkshire.
The 26-year-old left-arm spinning all-rounder joined the Falcons on loan midway through the 2011 season only to be swiftly recalled by the Tykes before playing a game.

Derbyshire CCC To Face South Africa
Thursday 29th September 2011 The England & Wales Cricket Board has announced that Derbyshire will face South Africa in a two day tour match in August.
The match against Graeme Smith's side will be played at the County Ground on Friday 10th and Saturday 11th August 2012. The South Africans currently occupy second place in the Official ICC Test Rankings behind England.

Krikken Dips Into Specialist Coaching Fund
Tuesday 27th September 2011 Derbyshire have dipped into their Specialist Coaching Fund to recruit David Houghton as a specialist batting coach.
The Specialist Coaching Fund is part of the future cricket strategy, which was announced in June and it will see Houghton work with the specific remit of improving the Club's batsmen.

Monday 12th September 2011 Matt Lineker has signed a one-year professional contract with Derbyshire.
The Ockbrook & Borrowash left-hander joined the Club on a Summer Contract ahead of the current campaign and, after winning the Second XI Player of the Year Award, he has now been retained for the 2012 campaign.

Monday 5th September 2011 Wes Durston has been named Derbyshire County Cricket Club Player of the Year at the Club's annual Awards Evening.
The 30-year-old all-rounder took the main award of the night in recognition of a prolific season which has seen him score 1,785 runs in all competitions with two first-class matches still to play.
Durston has scored 1,012 LV = County Championship runs at an average of 42.16 and 492 runs in the Clydesdale Bank 40 competition and also named Clydesdale Bank 40 Player of the Year. READ MORE...

Firstly, Tony Palladino has signed a two-year contract. The 28-year-old paceman had one year to run on his existing deal but has now extended his commitment until the end of the 2013 season.

Derbyshire signed off their T20 campaign with a defeat to Yorkshire Carnegie at the County Ground.

Steffan Jones Announces Retirement From County Cricket
Tuesday 28th June 2011 Steffan Jones will retire from professional cricket at the end of the current season to begin a career in teaching.
The 37-year-old fast bowler has been offered a three year player/coaching contract by Derbyshire but has opted to return to his family home in Somerset. Jones is currently enjoying his second spell at the County Ground after rejoining Derbyshire on loan from Somerset midway through the 2009 season, a move he made permanent during the following close season.

Derbyshire found defeat from a probable victory after restricting the Worcestershire Royals to 121-7 after their 20 overs. The highlight of the bowling for the Falcons was Tom Knight, the Sheffield born youngster with career best figures of 3-16, playing in only his fourth match of this format.

Madsen Behind Price Cuts
Tuesday 14th June 2011 Wayne Madsen has praised Derbyshire's decision to slash admission prices for the visit of Worcestershire Royals on Wednesday.
The in-form batsman wants to play in front of big crowds at every game. The cost of admission is just £6 (£4 juniors) for the televised fixture that starts at 7.10pm tomorrow (Wednesday) at the County Ground, Derby.

Derbyshire won their first T20 match in a rain soaked match at the County Ground, helped by man of the match, Martin Guptill, who hit his highest Derbyshire score of 60 as the Falcons posted a score of 183-3 after their 20 overs. Durham made an almost like for like start with Derbyshire but lost wickets at crucial times, which saw them need 15 off the last over. Friday 10th June 2011 Back Our Home Grown Players - "9-2" by 2013 - Derbyshire's team selections will include 9 England Qualified players from 2013. This will be achieved by backing our home grown cricketers and giving them the requisite time and support to succeed.

Derbyshire CCC Commit To Groundbreaking New Strategy
Thursday 9th June 2011 Derbyshire County Cricket Club has adopted a groundbreaking new cricket strategy following a meeting of the General Committee last night (Thursday 8th June).
The strategy includes: a landmark new signing from 2012, player development pathways for home grown players, the introduction of a specialist coaching fund, the opening of contract negotiations with key players and the permanent appointment of Karl Krikken as Head Coach working alongside Captain Luke Sutton.

Derbyshire Falcons v Durham Dynamos Preview
Thursday 9th June 2011 Wes Durston has pointed to Derbyshire's match winners and says the Falcons fear nobody ahead of Friday's match against Durham Dynamos.
Durston refers to the Dynamos as "a team full of stars" and - after excellent support in the home match against Lancashire - he is hoping the home crowd can once again be Derbyshire's '12th man' on Friday.

Derbyshire began their T20 campaign with the most dramatic of finishes. Requiring three runs to win the game, Lancashire skipper Glen Chapple could only scramble two and Derbyshire secured a tie.
A fine knock by Stephen Moore (72) for Lancashire helped his side settle for a draw. For Derbyshire, Wes Durston batted superbly well along with Chesney Hughes putting on 103 for the second wicket, which is Derbyshire's highest in T20 games versus Lancashire. Kark Krikken Believes Falcons Have A Strong Chance In t20
Thursday 2nd June 2011 Karl Krikken, Derbyshire's Acting Head of Cricket believes the Falcons have a strong chance in the T20 competition starting at Derby tonight (Thursday 2nd).
Derbyshire face captain Luke Sutton's former county Lancashire in a match which is sure to attract a large attendance. Krikken stated "It's a different format to where we have been a week ago, but we've done our practices and we're ready for Lancashire."

Guptill Looks To The Crease For Derbyshire
Tuesday 31st May 2011 Martin Guptill only arrived in England on Saturday before he was immediately thrust into the Derbyshire line up to face Surrey in the County Championship.
The New Zealander's first stay at the crease was a short one, but only after launching a massive six off England Test prospect, Jade Dernbach. Guptill returned a catch to Tim Linley moments later and the tall Kiwi departed. Guptill was thrown in at the deep end but enjoyed it, "Didn't really go to plan, I hit a six but I got out, I've started with this four dayer and it's been a good experience so far, I'm looking forward to the T20's". Monday 30th May 2011 Inter League Representative Match, Sun May 29th at Stocksbridge CC. Yorkshire and Derbyshire Cricket League v Bassetlaw Cricket League.
The match was held at the Bracken Moor ground of Stocksbridge CC. The Yorkshire Derbyshire League won the toss and elected to field in a match reduced to 32 overs per side due to a rain delayed start.

Derbyshire Batsman Gets Oz Call Up
Tuesday 24th May 2011 Derbyshire batsman Usman Khawaja has been called up by Australia A for the forthcoming VB Tour of Zimbabwe.
With the squad due to assemble for a training camp on 6th June ahead of the July series, Khawaja will return to Australia following the LV = County Championship match against Kent.

Thursday 12th May 2011 The General Committee of Derbyshire County Cricket Club has today decided not to extend the contract of Head of Cricket John Morris beyond 30th September 2011.
Similarly, the contract of Assistant First Team Coach Andy Brown will not be renewed when it expires on 31st December 2011.

Monday 18th April 2011 Derbyshire County Cricket Club has announced that Wayne Madsen and Tim Groenewald have been capped.
The two players were presented with their County Caps by Head of Cricket John Morris during the lunch interval on day three of the LV = County Championship match against Leicestershire at the County Ground.

Don Amott has resigned from his position as Chairman of Derbyshire County Cricket Club with immediate effect.
Amott, who has been Chairman of the Club since 2005, has also resigned from the General Committee.

Derbyshire CCC On Barbados Tour
Thursday 17th March 2011 Derbyshire's players and coaching staff departed for Barbados early yesterday morning where they will step up their pre-season preparations.
Academy left-arm spinner Tom Knight, 17, has been included in the touring party for the trip that will begin with a two day Twenty20 tournament during the forthcoming weekend.

Longer Innings For Cricket In Chesterfield
Sunday 13th March 2011 Chesterfield will continue to host County Cricket in Queen's Park after securing a further five-year deal with Derbyshire Cricket Club. It will also host a six-day Cricket Festival in August.
The club signed the deal with Chesterfield Borough Council last week, after the original five year deal - which saw cricket return to the ground, often said to be the most scenic ground in England - finished in 2010.
