Effective Methods Of Supporting Remote Workers

Monday 25th April 2022

All workers offer support. Such efforts should be distributed equally amongst the workforce. However, remote workers can often feel like outsiders.

There can also be a sense of awkwardness when meeting their colleagues in person for the first time, highlighting the extent of the disconnect when working from home.

If things worsen enough, many remote employees can feel like their location can impede their chances of career advancement.

They may also be left out of company events, never truly integrated into the culture.

Should you be a business leader, you are obligated to ensure that remote workers are fully supported.

Keep reading for some tips on how to do this.

Ask for Feedback

Management personnel will often give feedback to their subordinates. However, it’s also good to ask for it, especially from remote workers.

Making these enquiries proves to your remote workers that they have a real influence within the business. It shows that you are actively engaging them and willing to hear thoughts that could prove controversial in any other context.

Feedback can also help them get pressing concerns off their chest, easing stress factors, thereby improving their well-being.

Ask for this feedback often, not just when performance reviews occur company-wide. Additionally, you should give your remote workers the option to anonymously respond to any feedback survey you send out.

You will likely gain more responses, and a diverse pool of them is essential. Make sure you act on reasonable suggestions too.

Open Up Training

Gone are the days of orchestrating training sessions in meeting and conference rooms.

These days, much of these materials are enjoyed online. Therefore, there’s no basis for remote workers to be excluded from these opportunities.

Over 140 high-quality eLearning courses from iHASCO are a fine example of what’s possible here.

Each offering is designed to provide both guidance and reassurance to remote workers as they advance their capabilities. They can be productive, happy, and safe with these learning materials, picking up new skills and evolving their careers.

Remote workers shouldn’t be forgotten in static roles or kept on the peripheral. They are the beating heart of a firm like any other employee, so investing in their futures is a promising way to respect that fact openly.

Request a quote for these courses or try them for free; they’ll certainly pique the interest of your most aspirational and diligent remote workers.

Invite a Mixed Working Methods

Remote workers can often feel like they’re being kept at arm’s length. There’s no better way to dispel those suspicions than by inviting them to the workplace.

You could implement a healthy mix of in-house and remote work arrangements. That way, people working from home have the option to show their face, small talk with their colleagues, and get to know the business on a more intimate level. When remote working becomes more convenient for them, either personally or professionally, they can simply head home and resume their duties there.

Remote workers won’t feel like a minority under these measures. Instead, everyone on your payroll will fall into the home worker category at one time or another, establishing equal footing amongst all staff.

Moreover, those who choose to stay home will at least know they have options, which counts for a lot.
