Help The Homeless - Simple Ways
To Give Back This Christmas

Wednesday 9th November 2022

Christmas is a time for family, love and care for those near and dear to us. It’s also a time for giving to those who are less fortunate than ourselves.

While there are many causes out there that are worthy of our attention, one that is incredibly important is supporting those who find themselves without a home this festive season.

Thanks to the cost of living crisis and other factors, the number of people experiencing homelessness is expected to rise this year, and that means that charities supporting this cause need your help now more than ever before.

Over the festive season, the weather turns colder, meaning that those who are experiencing homelessness will find it harder to stay safe and comfortable.
Many people from all walks of life find themselves in housing insecurity at one point or another, or without a home, and it could easily be someone you know and love in the future.

So, if you want to give back to your local community and those who are experiencing homelessness throughout the country this Christmas, keep reading.

Get Guidance From Charitable Organisations

Charities that support those experiencing homelessness and work in the heart of the system to get them the help and housing they need are able to offer advice on how you can support anyone experiencing homelessness this Christmas.

Organisations such as St Martin-in-the-Fields Charity have extensive experience helping to ensure that everyone has a safe home. The charity has also created a practical overview so you can learn how to help the homeless.

You’ll then be able to make informed choices about how to help those experiencing homelessness this winter and educate others on what they can do.

Donate Money To Charities

As well as taking advice from them and learning about what they’re doing, you should also donate as much money as you’re able to comfortably to charities that support those experiencing homelessness, like the one listed above and others.

Money goes a long way towards helping those who find themselves without a home to have their immediate needs met, such as food, warm clothing and shelter.

It also allows charities to provide education and to lobby for changes to the UK’s housing system, which will help to reduce the number of people experiencing homelessness in the future.

Volunteer Your Time

At Christmas, many charities for those experiencing homelessness are busy as they work to support people during the colder months.

Additionally, with more people expected to be left without a home or struggling financially this winter, charities might need even more support from those who are able and willing to donate their time as well as money and resources.

Find local charities that you can volunteer for, and reach out to them to see how you can help.

Even if you don’t have much time, you can still volunteer for a few hours a week or for one specific occasion, and this assistance will be vitally important to those in need and the charities that support them.
