Chesterfield have signed teenage striker Mason Bennett from Derby County on a month's loan.

Chesterfield have signed teenage striker Mason Bennett from Derby County on a month's loan.

Bennett
, 17, (above), became Derby's youngest-ever player when he made his debut against Middlesbrough at the age of 15 years and 99 days. He has been allowed to go out on loan after mainly featuring as a substitute in his 14 appearances this season.

Bennett admits that he had no hesitation in dropping down from the Championship to join the Spireites. He said: "I pounced on the opportunity when my agent asked me if I wanted to join Chesterfield, saying 'yes' straight away.

"I'm buzzing because I want to get in front of a crowd again and show what I can do. I've been in and out of the team this season and I need to start playing regularly."

Subject to the necessary paperwork going through, Bennett will be available for Saturday's game at home to Oxford United. He is eligible for selection in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy final and his loan deal expires on April 12th.

Chesterfield Manager Paul Cook is delighted to have landed Bennett and hinted at a possible longer stay at the Proact for the England youth international. He said: "My job is to bring good players to the club and Mason is certainly a very exciting young player.

"We can offer him an opportunity to come in and hopefully forge a relationship which might last longer than a month."
