Spireites' Boss Set To Take Part In Chesterfield Half Marathon

Saturday 31st May 2014

Chesterfield FC Chief Executive Chris Turner is one of the latest people to sign-up for the Chesterfield and Derbyshire Marathon.

Chesterfield FC CEO Chris Turner will run the Half Marathon distance within the race, which takes place in the town on September 14th. He is running on behalf of the Spireites' Football in the Community programme.

Chris
will run the Half Marathon distance within the race, which takes place in the town on September 14th. He is running on behalf of the Spireites' Football in the Community programme.

With the 1,000 registered runners total set to be broken today (with the entry discount deadline at midnight tonight - Saturday 31st May - SEE BELOW), the event also includes the main event of the full marathon along with a relay race, where four competitors take a share of the full course and a Fun Run for young people and families which involves a shorter distance of approx two miles in and around Queen's Park.

The 26-mile route begins and finishes in Queen's Park in the town centre, with the event raising funds for children's charity Kids 'n' Cancer UK, as well as other local charities and causes, including Sheffield Children's Hospital Charity.

Chesterfield boss Paul Cook and a selection of players - fresh from winning promotion as Champions of League Two - are set to attend the Chesterfield Marathon to give their support to all runners, with well over 1,000 runners set to take part.

Chris said: "It's a great opportunity for the town to come together and support various charities in the local area, including Kids 'n' Cancer. It sounds like it will be a great event, with lots of entertainment around the day. Hopefully we can help get this Marathon on the map as one of the best events in the country to take part in.

"I really do feel Chesterfield is on the move. The football club plays a major part in the town and when it's successful the whole area benefits. It's exciting times and with the Marathon, along with Tom Jones and Party at the Proact coming soon too, there's a lot taking place."

Runners have until Midnight on May 31st (tonight!) to enter the Chesterfield and Derbyshire Marathon at the current discount rates of £35 (Full Marathon) £20 (Half Marathon) £100 (Team Relay) and £5 (Fun Run).

The deadline is also applicable to runners from the cancelled Sheffield Half Marathon, who will receive a discount to enter the race.

In addition to the running events there will be a range of fun activities for everyone in Queen's Park.

The Chesterfield and Derbyshire Marathon post-race celebration party kicks off straight after the fun run finishes with entertainment and live bands managed by Red Butterfly, John Proctor fairground rides, an inflatable arena and sport fun with Premier Sports.

VIP hospitality is sponsored by The Manor at Brampton, the fabulous VIP marquee is sponsored by Spire marquees. There's a beer garden and bar hosted and provided by The Britannia Bar Brampton and a food marquee with hogroast and BBQ with all the trimmings.

The day will finish with a finale of fireworks by Pyrotex award winning professional firework displays.

Tickets for the VIP marquee are available - please contact Andrea on 07507 236407 or Isobel on 07807 988316 for further details.
