Chandlers Bar Are The 'Ultimate Geeks' Five Years Running!

Wednesday 18th February 2015

Chesterfield's very own cocktail bar have recently celebrated their fifth year of running their pub quiz with a twist!

Chesterfield's very own cocktail bar have recently celebrated their fifth year of running their pub quiz with a twist!'The Geek Quiz'
has been a successful part of Chandlers, it's staff and customers, becoming a social highlight of the week. Offering an ultimate medley of trivia questions, videogame play-offs and bar challenges, the posh pub quiz has gained a reputation for it's outlandish humour, competitive edge and boisterous banter.

Host and Geek Guru, Martin Alvey, spoke last week over a cheeky drink in the classy establishment, explaining how Chandlers celebrated their special night in style, "As well as running the quiz as usual, we put a charity auction together to raise money for Ashgate Hospice.

"We received some amazing donations from all over the place, including from people who had seen members of their own family spend their last days there, so it was really special that so many people got involved."

The auction, which included an array of quirky memorabilia, managed to reign in a total of £520 for the Hospice. Everything from signed merchandise to limited edition posters went under the hammer in order to raise the grand sum, all of which went straight to the charity.

Over the past five years, The Geek Quiz has enjoyed a high level of success in the community regardless of people's interest in science fiction. With a lot of regulars and well established teams becoming a part of the venue's atmosphere, it just goes to show a pub quiz doesn't always belong in a rustic ale house.

"It's always been something that we set up to try and bring the local community together," Martin went on, "so when we saw how popular the night had become over the past five years, we thought it was really cool."

The Chandlers Bar can be found on Saint Mary's Gate, across from the Vicar Lane high street. The quiz takes place every Wednesday and commences around 9pm. All are welcome.
