Do You Know How To Save A Life?

Now, if you're planning to visit any of the shows, matches or carnivals around in Chesterfield this summer you may come across the St John's Ambulance Service there.
They have over 1,300 uniformed volunteers around Derbyshire who provide vital first aid at various events. They also run first aid training courses for local companies wanting to gain workplace accreditation.

Around 20 St John Ambulance members will stage a six-hour sponsored resuscitation at county headquarters in Chesterfield on Friday August 20, working in relays to deliver continuous cardiopulmonary resuscitation to Resusci Anne manikins used in training.

The challenge was the idea of senior volunteer for training Wendy Rushby, who has passed on her skills to hundreds of local people. It will involve adult members, cadets aged between 10 and 18 and badgers aged from five to 10. "It's going to be hard work, but we’ll do it," says Wendy. "Any money we raise is a bonus, as the county has to generate its own funds to operate. We hope local people will support us with sponsorship."

Visitors are welcome to attend the event, which takes place at the St John's Ambulance headquarters on Derby Road from 7am to 1pm.

There will be first-aid demonstrations, details of volunteering opportunities with St John Ambulance and information on local training courses delivered by the charity.

Anyone interested in sponsoring the event can email schools@derbyshire.sja.org.uk or telephone: 01246 200272.
