Alfreton Town Manager Nicky Law has brought one player in and released one long-serving member of the squad ahead of this Saturday's tough trip to AFC Telford United.

Law has brought in midfielder Louie Soares from Grimsby Town on loan to the end of the season and released long-serving defender Matt Wilson from his contract.

28 year-old Soares has been unable to tie down a regular spot in the Mariners' first-team this campaign, and has joined Alfreton until April 20th inclusive.28 year-old Soares (left) has been unable to tie down a regular spot in the Mariners' first-team this campaign, and has joined the Reds until April 20th inclusive.

Soares signed for Grimsby on the January deadline day 2012 and has made 15 appearances for the club. He has also spent time out on loan with Ebbsfleet United where he played eight times.

Originally with Reading, Soares had spells with Bristol Rovers and Barnet but it was with Aldershot, who he joined in May 2006, that his career really took off, making 147 appearances and netting 17 goals. He left the Rec in the summer of 2010 and turned out for Southend and Hayes & Yeading United before joining the Mariners.

His current deal with Grimsby runs out at the end of the season. Soares will wear squad number eight during his stay but he will not be permitted to play in the away league fixture at Grimsby Town on February 2nd as part of the deal.

Louie is eligible to play in the Derbyshire Senior Cup but not until both the Buxton and Mickleover Royals games have hopefully been successfully completed.

Meanwhile, Alfreton have released long-serving utility player Matt Wilson from his contract.Meanwhile, Alfreton have released long-serving utility player Matt Wilson (left) from his contract.

Wilson, 25, played a major part in the Reds' Conference North title success but has found it tough to gain a shirt in the Blue Square Bet Premier Division.

He spent three months on loan at Boston United earlier this season but has suffered with injures which have reduced him to just one substitute appearance in the current campaign.

His total amount of appearances for Alfreton since joining the club in September is 163, 14 of which have been from the bench. He netted ten goals for the club.

The club thank Matt for his efforts whilst at the Impact Arena and wish him every success in the future.

As well as this, the Reds boss has already extended the loan deals of Leeds United defender Ross Killock and Sheffield United midfield play-maker Matty Harriott, but, with around a fortnight of the transfer window left, he admitted he is continuing to work hard to bring in more players to strengthen his squad

Meanwhile, the Reds boss had mixed emotions after seeing his side twice come from behind to gain a point in a 3-3 draw at Hereford United last Saturday.

Law was once again critical of a defence which he felt once again gave goals away far too cheaply.

He explained: "Cut out the mistakes out and we are a match for anybody [in this division]. If you keep giving soft goals away you make it harder for yourself and at the minute that is what we keep doing. All success is built on defence and at the minute we are not doing that" added Law.

"You look at the  recent  games, against Wrexham we dominated play but gave away two poor goals. Against Hereford, two of the three we conceded could have been avoided. You can't give poor goals away in any level of the game and I think I probably think I know in which areas our problems lie. I have got two weeks to deal with it" ended Law.

ATFC Supporters' Association transport to the game at AFC Telford United this Saturday departs at 9.45am and seats can be booked by contacting Mark Thorpe on 07857 558401.
