RESULTS AND REPORTS -
BEECHWOOD SAAB ECB DERBYSHIRE PREMIER LEAGUE

Ilkeston Rutland (3pts) 170 all out [47.5 overs] (D Shelton 49, R McFadyean 4-35, D Wheeldon 3-59)
lost to
Sandiacre Town (22pts) 171-2 [33.1 overs] (J Chapman 87*, J Trueman 44)
by 8 wickets

REPORT: Chapman secures fourth Sandiacre win

James Chapman (87*) and John Trueman (44) steered Sandiacre Town to their fourth Beechwood Saab Premier League win of the season after Ilkeston Rutland had been dismissed for a modest 170 in 47.5 overs.

It took Sandiacre just 33 overs to wrap up an eight-wicket win after the break after Ryan McFadyean (4-35) and Dan Wheeldon (3-59) had proved too much of a handful.

Danny Shelton (49) offered the only real resistance for Ilkeston who took just three points from the encounter and slipped into the bottom two as a result.

Spondon (27pts) 316-6 [50 overs] (B Ashdown 116, J Ratcliffe 90,
J Ashdown 30)
beat
Alvaston & Boulton (5pts) 162 all out [49.3 overs] (C McIlroy 51, H Adnan 39,
K Callaghan 3-25, C Windmill 3-25)
by 154 runs

REPORT: Ashdown Ton Too Good for A&B

Ben Ashdown smashed a superb116 from just 125 balls as Spondon easily beat Alvaston & Boulton to move into second place just 10pts behind leaders Sandiacre Town.

Ashdown's century saw Spondon power their way to a mammoth 316 for 6, a total which proved way beyond an out of sorts A & B.

Jack Ratcliffe, not to be outdone, crack an excellent 90 (2 sixes, 13 fours) off just 105 deliveries and added 155 with Ashdown for Spondon's second wicket. The runs kept coming with Joe Ashdown (30) and Chris Windmill (23) finally knocking the stuffing out of the visitors who lost Steve Stubbings for a duck and never really recovered.

Chris McIlroy (51) and Hassan Adnan (39) put on 80 for the third wicket but a win was never on the cards and Kane Callaghan (3-25) and Windmill (3-25) ultimately took control. Ben Perry-Taylor (24) offered the only other resistance and from 134 for 4 A & B crashed to a disappointing 162 all out.

Ockbrook & Borrowash (20pts) 267-8 [50 overs] (J Guthrie 47, M Lineker 65,
J Needham 35, C Jennings 4-79)
drew with
Dunstall (7pts) 159-9 [50 overs] (J Benstead 61*, L Wharton 3-39)

REPORT: Ockbrook held up by Benstead

A fighting unbeaten knock of 61 from Jamie Benstead helped Dunstall to hang on for a draw at Victoria Avenue against former champions Ockbrook & Borrowash.

Ockbrook lost Matt Cassar for just three but Jonny Guthrie (47) and Matt Lineker (65) turned things around with a partnership of 116. Jake Needham added a sprightly 35 and similar contributions from George Morgan (25) and Jonny Owen (28) left Dunstall with the daunting prospect of matching 267 for 8. Craig Jennings, who had earlier grabbed the wicket of Cassar, finished with figures of 4 for 79.

A Kevin Dean strike, a run-out and two wickets for Steve Attenborough (2-28) had Dunstall reeling on 21 for 4 soon after the break but James Benstead, who had watched the action from the non-striker's end, was joined by Andy Malkin (23) and together they attempted to repair some of the damage.

They had added 60 when Malkin was caught at the wicket but Craig Jennings (29) then added a further 63 with the immovable Benstead before being stumped off the bowling of Lineker (2-10). Paddy Howley was Lineker's second victim, trapped in front, and when Ben McLeod was bowled by Lian Wharton (3-39) Dunstall had slumped to a nervy 147 for 8.

Wharton dismissed Eddie Kelly (12) to further increase the nerves but skipper Martin Clewley survived and it was congratulations all round to Benstead who was still there at the close having faced no fewer than 139 balls.

Alfreton (10pts) 210-5 [50 overs] (A Mace 73*, T Bentley 35)
drew with
Ticknall (15pts) 229-5 [50 overs] (L Harvey47, Z Abbas 78, S Khan 49*,
A Burton 3-65)

REPORT: Bat to the fore at Alfreton

Bat dominated ball at Alfreton where the home side very nearly overhauled Ticknall’s 229 for 5.

Alex Mace's side closed on 210 for 5 with the skipper himself unbeaten on 73, a knock including 2 sixes and 7 fours. The reply didn't start too well with Jake Simpson and Andy Gwatkin both falling cheaply and Alfreton were struggling on 48 for 3 but Tom Bentley (35) joined Mace in a fourth wicket stand of 67 to give the hosts every chance of springing a surprise. Jonathan Clarke and Ben Slater both supported well after Bentley's departure on 151 for 5 but the runs didn't come quickly enough and the bottom club had to be satisfied with a final haul of 11pts.

The afternoon had begun well for Alfreton with the early prize of Paul Borrington's wicket, but from 40 for 2, Ticknall responded via Luke Harvey (47) and Zain Abbas (78) who added 55 for the third wicket. Shahid Khan (49*) then joined Abbas in a stand of 73 and Ticknall powered on to 229 for 5 which in the end was to prove just enough.

Chesterfield (22pts) 231-3 [43 overs] (A Hibbert 88*, B Slater 57, S Lacey 37*)
beat
Quarndon (6pts) 230 all out [49.5 overs] (N Dumelow 60, M Dowman 55,
R Williamson 33, M Deane 5-51)
by 7 wickets

REPORT: Hibbert fires Chesterfield to first win

Chesterfield are off the mark in 2011 courtesy of an excellent seven-wicket win over Quarndon, a result that moves them two places up the table to seventh.

A superb unbeaten 88 from skipper Alex Hibbert, coupled with opener Ben Slater's fine innings of 57, steered Chesterfield to victory with seven overs to spare. Hibbert and Slater added 73 for the second wicket and then Simon Lacey (37*) joined his captain on 142 for 3 in an unbroken stand that took the home side to their target of 231.

Earlier in the day Quarndon's top order had set the scene for a large total and they raced to 192 for 4 with runs from Mat Dowman (55), Nathan Dumelow (60) and Robin Williamson (33) but Michael Deane (5-51) grabbed late and important wickets and hence the victory target remained very much within range.

Rolls Royce Leisure (10pts) 218-6 [50 overs] (S Shafiq 63, B Ejaz 50,
M Sanderson 4-49)
drew with
Lullington Park (17pts) 245-7 [50 overs] (J Docherty 104*, M Sanderson 43,
N Akhtar 3-34)

REPORT: Stop - Start - Park

Outstanding performances from James Doherty and Matt Sanderson ensured that Lullington Park got the better of their drawn game against Rolls Royce Leisure. Doherty, in only his fourth Premier League game after his move from Leicestershire, scored a brilliant 104 not out and Sanderson achieved his best batting (43) and best bowling (4-49) performances for Park in the Premier League.

Park skipper Jonny Shales elected to bat and Park produced one of their regular stop-start batting performances. Early wickets for Naeem Akhtar (3-34) and Shahzada Khan (2-75) left Park on 69 for 4 and Doherty had scored just six off 33 balls. Joe Eaton and Paul Dawson were both LBW to Naeem but Sanderson joined Doherty at 98 for 6 to add 82 for the seventh wicket.

Alan Gough then contributed just eight runs to an eighth wicket unbeaten stand of 65 and Doherty went to his century with his second fifty coming off only 26 deliveries - no fewer than 106 runs coming from the last 10 overs.

Royces target, therefore, was a stiff 246 but Bilal Ejaz (50) and Sahd Shafiq (63) put on exactly a hundred before left-arm spinner Paul Dawson struck a much-needed blow for Park, having Ejaz smartly stumped by George Hodson-Walker. 39 runs later Sanderson forced Shafiq to sky to Dawson at backward point and Haq Nawaz was run out by a direct hit from Jonny Shales attempting a very dicey single.

Mehmood Tariq was bowled by Sanderson for four and the off spinner took two return catches to send back Atiq Bhatti and skipper Waseem Mohammed. At this point, with the score on 179 for 6, there was little prospect of a positive result for either side; Naeem Akhtar finished with some lusty blows on 27 not out and Srikanth Venkatappa saw out nineteen balls without difficulty and the home side finally closed on 218 for 6.

ABBEY GLASS DERBYSHIRE COUNTY LEAGUE DIVISION 1

Denby (22pts) 143-2 [34 overs] (L Glenn 48*, C Durham 37)
beat
Clifton (2pts) 139 all out [49.3 overs] (F Khan 32, J Greenhalgh 3-22)
by 8 wickets

REPORT: High Five at Denby

Denby continued their impressive start to the Abbey Glass Division One season with their fifth straight win.

Clifton were the unfortunate opponents and they were bundled out for a lowly 139 off the third ball of the final over. The Denby attack, led by Joe Greenhalgh (3-22), dominated throughout and only Faisal Khan (32) came away with any respectability.

It took the hosts just 34 overs to wrap up an eight wicket win with Liam Glenn unbeaten on 48 at the close. Chris Durham contributed a fine solid 37.

Sawley & LE Park (22pts) 212-6 [48.4 overs] (S Roberts 110*)
beat
Marehay (7pts) 211 all out [49.3 overs] (A Walters 32, G Buckley 36, J Kyte 36,
T Burke 37, B White 3-44, A Rhodes 3-57, S Roberts 3-40)
by 4 wickets

REPORT: Roberts century keeps Sawley in touch

Aussie all-rounder Sean Roberts crafted a superb unbeaten ton to steer Sawley to a hard-fought win over Marehay.

Roberts finished on 110* and Sawley edged home by four wickets with eight balls to spare after Marehay had posted a solid 211.

A big innings from one of the Marehay batsmen may well have been the catalyst for a big score but in the event no-one managed to pass 40. Barry White (3-44) reduced Marehay to 43 for 3 but Andy Walters (32) and Gaz Buckley (36) hit back with a stand of 42.

Andy Rhodes (3-57) and Roberts (3-40) countered to reduce the visitors to a shaky 132 for 7 but good knocks from James Kyte (36), Tom Burke (37) and Richard Wood (25) meant a bit of work to do for Sawley after the break.

But it was work relished by Roberts and Sawley, as a result, maintain the pressure on leaders Denby and have a comfortable 24pt margin to third-placed Swarkestone.

Swarkestone (22pts) 125-2 [22.4 overs] (J Guthrie 58*)
beat
Clay Cross (1pt) 119 all out [39.3 overs] (M Wilson 5-23)
by 8 wickets

REPORT: Wilson five-for too much for Clay Cross

Mitch Wilson returned a superb 5 for 23 as Swarkestone easily beat bottom of the table Clay Cross to move up to third in the table.

Wilson's two early strikes left Clay Cross on 19 for 2 and they never properly recovered although Bil Hartley and Matt Griffiths managed to add 34 for the third wicket but it turned out to be the highest partnership of the innings. The two sixes swatted by Griffiths were a highlight but quickly forgotten as Bruce Dilks (2-14) and Tom Knight (2-23) joined Wilson amongst the wickets. Late stubbornness from James Redfern (24) held things up for a time but a final tally of 119 was never going to be enough.

Jon Branson picked up the early scalp of Ben McGonigal after tea and Redfern got rid of Like Thomas (22) but from 60 for 2 Jamie Guthrie (58*) and Ross Whiteley (26*) made no mistake and Swarkestone strode home in only the 23rd over.

Stainsby Hall (1pt) 131 all out [43.1 overs] (P Camm 3-39)
lost to
Matlock (22pts) 134-1 [33.1 overs] (B De Wett 52*)
by 9 wickets

REPORT: Matlock Up To Fourth

Matlock moved up to fourth place in Division One following an emphatic win at Stainsby Hall.

The home side suffered a succession of unfortunate run-outs on the way to making a disappointing 131 all out with only Ashley Lynch (24) and Rob Wood (24) able to make any significant impression.

Peter Camm (3-39), wicket-less in his first spell, returned to snuff out any hope of a Stainsby recovery.

Matlock in reply lost Kevin Leatherday with the scoreboard showing 42 but that was Stainsby's only success with Minesh Keshwala (21*) and Burton de Wett (52*) marshalling Matlock to victory in the 34th over.

Elvaston (22pts) 217-4 [37.3 overs] (N Briars 113*, C Ault 59, M Archer 31)
beat
Rolleston (6pts) 213-9 [50 overs] (A Britton 56, Z Fried 44, S Lillie 4-27,
I Hall 3-65)
by 6 wickets

REPORT: Lillie Wickets keep coming

Simon Lillie (4-27) continued to build on his impressive haul of wickets in 2011 with a four wicket haul against Rolleston who nevertheless posted a reasonably solid 213 for 9.

The innings, however, was a long way from being in good shape at 92 for 6 with Lillie and Ian Hall (3-65) controlling matters but Rolleston fought back through Alex Britton (56) and Zac Fried (44) but one had the feeling that 213 was not going to be enough.

And so it proved with Matt Archer (31) and Nick Briars giving Elvaston just the start they needed after the break. Their partnership was worth 58 when Archer was tempted from his ground by Dave Tee but Britton gave the visitors hope with another breakthrough, the wicket of Jake Harrold - 65 for 2. Charlie Ault (59), however, dashed Rolleston's hope with a blistering knock which featured ten boundaries, five of them sixes.

Ault added 109 with the ever-present Briars (113*) who went on to a well-deserved century and saw his side home in the 38th over - six wickets the final margin.

Staveley Welfare (12pts) 222-5 [50 overs] (J May 68, J Bullimore 32,
C Bullimore 43*, A Leonard 3-69)
drew with
Eckington (15pts) 241-9 [50 overs] (T Dawson 32, R Pretorius 79,
R Liacono 4-43, T Bullimore 3-50)

REPORT: Lift-off for Eckington

Eckington are finally off the bottom of the table after a winning-draw against Staveley Welfare, a result producing 15pts, easily Eckington’s best of the season.

Eckington's 241 for 9 was built around Ruhan Pretorius (79) and Tom Dawson (32) who safely navigated the stormy waters that were Ross Liacono (4-43) and Tom Bullimore (3-50).

Staveley replied in kind, John May (68), Joe Bullimore (32) and Chris Bullimore (43*) giving their side every chance but Adam Leonard's 3 for 69 meant that the home side came up short on 222 for 5.
