Match Reports
11th - 12th September 2010

Sunday 12th September 2010

PANTHERS 1st XV  54 - 22 SKEGNESS 1st XV

Panthers travelled to the seaside for their first league game of the season and ran out comfortable winners in a high scoring game.

Playing into a strong wind the Chesterfield side faced a barrage of kicks from Skegness but returned all of them with ease and after an opening try from Rob Collins led at the interval by 16 points to 5.

On the restart the home side attempted to force  their way through the Panthers defence by playing 10 man rugby but the resilience of the Panthers forwards kept them out, with Man of the Match Ricky Poulter making tackle after tackle and stopping them in their tracks.

Panthers gradually took control of the game and went on to score a further 38 points. A little relaxation at the end allowed the home side to record 17 points and make the score a little bit more respectable but the game had never looked in doubt.

Panther’s tries came from David Simms (3), Rob Collins (2), Ant Barnett (2) and Tom Arnold. Barnett also kicked 2 penalties.

The next game is at home to Tupton on Saturday 18th, kicking off at 3pm. With the local rivals also recording a comprehensive win in their opening league game this will be an early decider for who tops the league table as we move into the season.

ASHFIELD 3rd XV 27 - 19 PANTHERS 2nd XV

A game which could have gone either way saw the Panthers eventually lose after having led until midway through the second half.

A late flurry however from the home team turned the game their way and despite some strong Chesterfield pressure a victory just eluded them.

The youth policy of the Club showed that it is now starting to bring rewards as several players who have only just stepped up from the Junior Section all put in good performances.

Tries came from Tony Lord, Gary Bates and Jack Preece with Chris Cooper kicking 2 conversions.

PANTHERS (U17s) 59 - 5 ASHBY (U17s)

In their final warm up before the start of their league campaign Chesterfield went on a try spree to produce a confidence building result.

Charles Richmond got the scoring underway after crashing through the Ashby defence and Sam Curry kicked the first of what turned out to be 6 conversions.

Dillon Samuels added a second try, touching down in the corner and Jordan White then got in on the act with two quick tries under the posts.

Ashby broke through the home side’s defence to record their only try of the game but a second from Dillon Samuels gave a lead of 31 - 5 at the break.

The second half saw tries for Ryan Andrews, 2 from Marcus Walker and the completion of a Jordan White hat-trick as the Panthers completed a convincing victory.

Man of the Match was George Atkin.
