Work Begins On New Rugby Ground

Monday 1st November 2010

Work has begun on the Chesterfield Panthers RUFC’s new ground at Dunston after a "First Sod Turning" ceremony was held last week with the Mayor of Chesterfield, Councillor Keith Morgan, turning over the first spade of earth at the site of the development.

President of the Panther's - Steve Gambles and the Mayor turn the first "Sod" for the new rugby groundThe land was purchased from Chesterfield Borough Council in August and work began last month on the preparation of the playing fields.

When completed the site will not only be the home for the Panthers, but will also have football and cricket pitches plus a children's play area and accommodation for other local sports and community groups.

Pictured left are the President of Chesterfield Panthers, Steve Gambles (left) and The Mayor taking out the first spade full.

It is anticipated that the ground works will be finished for spring next year and construction of the new club house will start next summer, with the target being to begin playing rugby on the new ground in September 2012.

The Club welcomes participation from all sports clubs and community groups in the area with this project and any that have interest are invited to contact Fred Pell on 01246 857480.
