League Confirm New Date For Blades Game

Tuesday 14th February 2012

League Confirm New Date For Blades v Spireites GameThe Football League has confirmed tonight that Chesterfield FC's away game against Sheffield United should be played at Bramall Lane on Wednesday 28th March 2012, with a kick-off at 7.45pm, despite a request by the Spireites for the game to be played a week later.

The game originally scheduled for Saturday 24th March has had to be re-arranged due to the Spireites involvement in the final of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy Final at Wembley on Sunday 25th March.

The club had hoped that with the proximity of the Wembley final and the resulting extra costs for Chesterfield fans, the re-scheduled league match against the Blades could have been played the following week on Tuesday 3rd April.

Chesterfield Chief Executive Chris Turner said: "In view of the significance of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy Final to ourselves and the Football League, we are disappointed that our request to avoid playing the re-arranged game just days after the Wembley Final has not been supported.

"All we ask is that Football League regulations should include some flexibility to ensure that Johnstone's Paint Trophy finalists - and their supporters - are not disadvantaged when appearing at Wembley.

"The local-derby against Sheffield United at Bramall Lane is one of the club's biggest games of the season and we think that football should recognise the financial impact that decisions like this have on supporters, especially during these difficult economic times."
