Ashover Panto To Hit The Stage...
(Oh Yes It Is!)
Fairies will rub shoulders with a group of ghouls and a beautiful princess will face up to wicked Queen Lucricia Vicious at Ashover's Parish Hall early in January. At the same time, seven unusually tall dwarfs will be competing in their own version of the Olympics and Dame Gertie Gigglebag will be working hard to win the affections of a mystery VIP judge from the world of The Apprentice. Ashover's pantomime this year will be a lively version of Snow White and it promises to be just as successful as the many previous pantos written and directed by Rosemary Early. Everything comes together on the evenings of Friday and Saturday, January 6th and 7th 2012 and, for the first time in many years, children as young as 3 look set to steal the show. "10 girls and 3 boys will play fairies and ghouls. They are showing tremendous energy and enthusiasm and really bring the performance alive," said Rosemary this week. An insider who happens to have had a sneak preview of the pantomime, says that Snow White also features a friendly bear, a valiant prince, a fairy called Cuddles, and a couple of knockabout characters called Drip and Drop. Particularly eye-catching, it's reported, are two ultra-violet scenes designed by Nigel Early. The first performance will be staged on the Friday at 7.30pm. "Everybody's welcome and it's all free," says Rosemary. The following day will see the ever-popular Parish Party when, in addition to the pantomime, the 2012 May Queen and King and their attendants will be chosen during a programme of traditional party games and other activities. It begins at 6pm and includes a buffet tea.
