Chesterfield's Queen's Park Says 'Feed The Birds' For National Nest Box Week
Wednesday 27th February 2013 More than 100 bird lovers flocked to Queen's Park to take part in a nest box building event organised by Chesterfield Borough Council. ![]() Oscar, aged 7 from Chesterfield, proudly shows off his Nest Box, built at Queen's Park Despite the bitterly cold temperatures, the event, held last Thursday 21st February, was hailed as a success with 58 nest boxes built - 30 specially for blue tits and a further 28 for robins. ![]() It is estimated that there are between five and six million nest boxes in gardens across the country. Councillor Chris Ludlow, Chesterfield Borough Council's Executive Member for Environment said: "I am pleased to see so many people take part in the nest box building event - particularly the children. "It is important that they are able to learn about how to care for local birds and wildlife from an early age and this event will help them to do just that."
