New Look For An Old Favourite (2)

Thursday 7th October 2010

Cutting The Ribbon At Wilkinson's Re-openingShoppers shared in the fun and watched The Mayor and Mayoress of Chesterfield cut the ceremonial ribbon to officially open the revamped Wilkinson's store, alongside Emily Evans, the corporate events manager at Ashgate Hospice, Wilkinsons' Chief Executive, Stuart Mitchell, Chief Financial Officer, Ian Ellis and Store Manager,
Paul Briddon.

Following the ribbon cutting, His Worship the Mayor was presented with a cheque for £100 for his Mayor's Appeal fund, which is supporting local charities, Fairplay and the Chesterfield Samaritans. Emily Evans was also presented with a cheque of £200 for the Ashgate Hospice, which provides palliative care to adults in the area.

The day of celebrations involved a medieval stilt walker, a magician and sweets and balloons being handed out. A raffle was held to raise money for The Anthony Nolan Trust that is Wilkinson's Charity of the Year for 2010.

Wilkinson's Staff Celebrate the opening.

The Chesterfield store's new look was completed as part of a national initiative by Wilkinsons to invest in local towns.

The Chesterfield Post caught up with Stuart Mitchell who told us that the Chesterfield store is very important to the Wilkinson family, saying: "This is our number one store in the country, we've been here for 24 years and 7 months so we're very much part of the community. We've taken into account customer feedback and provided more.

"Wikinson's is a 100% family owned business still, celebrating our 80th birthday this year. Despite the recession, it's expanding - with 50 new stores opening, due in part we think to our great value, excellent shopping environment and excellent customer service. The company is very proud of Chesterfield."

We also caught up with Manager, Paul Briddon who had earlier given an emotional speech to the staff. He told us that, "It's great to see the Mayor here today and to support our charity - The Ashgate Hospice. Staff have worked hard for this, it's a great day for them. It's been a long process; three and half months from start to finish, for the benefit of customers. The people are just wonderful here. I've worked at over 20 stores - this is by far my favourite."
