New Look For An Old Favourite

Tuesday 28th September 2010

Wilkinsons on Vicar Lane is set for a makeover this month as part of the company's nationwide initiative to invest in local towns and refresh existing stores throughout the UK.

The Chesterfield store will be closed for two days on Tuesday 5th October and Wednesday 6th October, and will unveil a new look to the public on Thursday 7th October at 9:00am

His Worship the Mayor ,and The Mayoress of Chesterfield, Councillor Keith Morgan and Mrs Patricia Morgan,  Emily Evans from Ashgate Hospice (which provides palliative care to adults in the region), will officially re-open the store, alongside Wilkinsons' CEO, Stuart Mitchell; Family Director, Karin Swann; and Store Manager, Paul Briddon.

To celebrate the store's new look, all shoppers over the age of 22 who spend £10 or more in one transaction, will be in with the chance of winning a fabulous, scarlet red Citroen C1 VT 5 door family car, worth £8,845.

On spending £10 or more, shoppers will receive a prize draw entry form at the till, and all they will have to do is enter their details, answer a simple question correctly, and then pop the form into the collection boxes situated outside the front of the store to be in the running.

The competition will run from 9:00am on Thursday 7th October to 3:00pm on Sunday 10th October, and the car will be situated outside the store for customers to see what their new set of wheels could be! The lucky winner will be drawn at 3:30pm on Sunday 10th October and will be notified the same day.

During the re-opening celebrations, between 11:00am and 3:00pm, a medieval stilt walker will be inviting customers to grab a bargain or two, and a magician will also be on hand to perform tricks. Throughout the day staff will be handing out sweets and balloons, while volunteers from Anthony Nolan, Wilkinsons' nominated charity of the year, will also hold a charity raffle. Customers will be able to win a jam packed hamper, which will include a wide range of high quality, everyday goods.

Activities will continue on Saturday 9th October when, from 9:30am to 3:00pm, there will be a balloon modeller in store, creating animals, hats and twisted balloon shapes - the magician will also make a welcome return, to entertain anyone and everyone who passes through the doors.

Paul explained: "We are looking forward to giving shoppers the chance to win this amazing family car. It's the perfect spacious run around, ideal for dropping the children off at school, as well as doing the weekly family shop.  We are also really proud to be giving the store a fresh new look, creating a brighter shopping environment, while maintaining the same great low prices and fantastic bargains we are famous for."

With it's wide selection of high quality, low-priced everyday products, including health and beauty, cleaning, pet care, confectionery, food and snacks, DIY and paint, tools and electrics, toys, garden and homewares, furniture and lights, kitchen and bath, textiles, stationery and books, Wilkinson in Chesterfield will remain the local, trusted high street retailer it always has been.

Still a family owned firm after 80 years of trading, Wilkinsons has over 340 stores across the UK, selling over 25,000 product lines. Wilkinsons is committed to Britain's high streets and is an active supporter of local charities, community groups and care organisations.
