Burglaries Increase In Dronfield And
Eckington

Tuesday 5th October 2010

After an increase in burglaries in Dronfield and Eckington that have resulted in car keys being taken and used to steal high-powered vehicles, police are offering crime prevention advice to householders.

There have been a number of incidents over the last few weeks, many happening overnight whilst owners were in bed. Vehicles have been recovered a few days later.

Police are urging people to lock their doors and windows before going to bed and make sure keys are not left on display.

Inspector Michelle Shooter, who is in charge of policing in North East Derbyshire said: "These offenders often target households with high powered sport vehicles. Recently these have been Audis, Volkswagens, Seats and BMWs.

"We want to encourage people to take some simple steps to assist us in preventing these incidents. You may prevent these types of crimes by ensuring your house is fully secure, not leaving your car keys near to external doors or where they can be seen and ideally putting your car in a garage overnight. These simple steps can make a difference.

"I urge the public to contact the us immediately if they notice anything or anyone that is slightly suspicious."

Anyone with information about these crimes should call police on 0345 123 3333 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
