White Out For The Reds

Tuesday 21st December 2010

The extreme weather has hit Alfreton Town hard, in common with many teams around our region.

Two more postponements occurred for the Reds this week, with Saturday's home League game against Gloucester City and Tuesday's cup fixture against South Normanton Athletic falling foul of the icy conditions.

It now means a busy second half of the season for Nicky Law's squad with six of their last seven games cancelled and only one game played in the last five weeks. With the re scheduled date for the South Normanaton game set at 5th January 2011, Alfreton are looking at the prospect of FIVE games in the first 11 days of the New Year.

When the team do return to the field though, Nicky Law will have a full squad of players fit and ready for action with Anton Brown's one match suspension served and midfielder Dan Dillon fit again after a minor shin injury. New signing Paul Lister will also be keen to show what he can do after joining from Hinckley United a fortnight ago.

New Year's Day sees a local derby against rivals Eastwood Town at the Impact Arena. Two days later, on Monday 3rd January, the Reds travel to Stafford Rangers in the league, with the rearranged Derbyshire Senior Cup home tie against South Normanton Athletic taking place on Wednesday of the same week. Next home league games then take place with Stalybridge Celtic on Saturday, January 8th and Workington on Tuesday, January 11th.

Before 2011 though, Alfreton are due at Eastwood Town on Boxing Day and are scheduled to host Blyth Spartans on Tuesday, December 28th. Both games carry a 3pm kick-off.

Nicky Law isn't fazed by the schedule though, saying, "A rush of games is going to happen sooner or later and I would rather it be sooner obviously.

"I am sure the players would sooner be playing Saturday/Tuesday rather than training twice in midweek.

"It is no more than we would be doing, just a bit more intense, it won't make a massive difference to us.

"I have always found that we are better when we play Saturday and Tuesday and miss training on a Thursday. It just gets the momentum going. We just need to get the momentum started!

"It is the same for everybody though. We just want to get on with it."

Transport

If the Boxing Day game at Eastwood Town game goes ahead, official ATFC Supporters' Association transport to the game will depart at 1.45pm.

Reduced fares of just £6 for adults and £3 for concessions will be charged for this fixture. Seats can be booked by contacting Mark Thorpe on 01773 836251.

Cambridge tie segregated

The Reds have announced that the FA Carlsberg Trophy second round tie at home to Cambridge United on January 15th will be subject to crowd segregation.

Should a replay be required, this will be staged at United's Abbey Stadium on Tuesday, January 18th.
