Battle At The Impact

Monday 10th January 2011

It's a fixture that’s been dubbed 'The Battle of the Reds' and ALFRETON Town can go three points clear at the top of Blue Square Bet North if they beat Workington at the Impact Arena on Tuesday night.

Nicky Law expects late fitness checks on goalkeeper Paddy Gamble and central defender Paul Lister who both missed the 5-3 home win over Stalybridge Celtic on Saturday due to a flu virus, and versatile Matt Wilson could be back, as he is hopeful of having recovered from a sore foot.

Alfreton are unbeaten in eight league games while Workington recently ended an unwanted run of six straight defeats with a 2-0 victory at Stafford Rangers and a 1-1 home draw against Blyth Spartans in their last two outings respectively.

While it is a first game of the season between the two sides, it comes during a busy match list for Alfreton - the fifth game in 11 days. Workington though have not played since the draw with Blyth on New Year's Day.

Kick-off is 7.45pm.

And it's also been announced by the club that their scheduled Blue Square Bet North game at Guiseley AFC on Tuesday February 1st, has been cancelled due to the West Yorkshire club's County Cup commitment. The fixture has been rearranged for Tuesday March 22nd, with a 7.45pm kick-off.
