Will It Be 8 From 8 For The Reds?

Friday 11th February 2011

ALFRETON Town finally return to Blue Square Bet North league action by making the longest journey of the season to Workington on Saturday.

It is a first league outing in just over a month for Nicky Law's side, ironically since they beat the Cumbrian Reds 2-0 at the Impact Arena back on Tuesday, January 11th with superb goals from Aden Flint and Paul Clayton on ten and 51 minutes respectively.

Whilst the Derbyshire Reds travel looking for a first win in four games in all competitions, they will be backed by their fantastic away record this season.

Nicky Law's side are unbeaten in all ten games away from home in all competitions so far with eight wins and two draws - both of which were in cup competitions.

And if victory can be achieved at Borough Park, Alfreton will extend their magnificent form away in the league to a staggering eight wins from eight games.

Reds manager Nicky Law has some interesting selection choices with Paul Lister available again and latest signings goalkeeper Chris Mackenzie and central defenders Scott Garner, Theo Streete and Kallum Keane all vying for a place. There are no suspensions and only Josh Law will need a late fitness test on his thigh strain.

The Cumbrians sit tenth in the table with 32 points from 23 games. Alfreton are fourth with 47 from 18, eight points behind leaders Nuneaton Town but with a massive eight games in hand.

Workington will be looking for a first clean sheet at home in the league with the battle of the Reds being a 13th home outing for the Cumbrians in which they have also failed to find the target in five of the 12 so far.

Darren Edmondson's side have recorded six wins at Borough Park for points against Gainsborough Trinity (4-2), Redditch United (5-1) and 2-1 victories against Solihull Moors, Vauxhall Motors, Harrogate Town and Gloucester City.

Workington have shared the spoils just once on home turf, Blyth Spartans taking home a point from a 1-1 draw.

The Cumbrian Reds have gone down five times at home this season, defeats coming against AFC Telford United (1-0), Eastwood Town (3-0),
Guiseley (1-0), Stalybridge Celtic (5-0) and Nuneaton Town (1-0).

Top scorers for Workington so far are Gareth Arnison and Jonny Wright with five goals each.

For Alfreton, Liam Hearn leads the way with 13 followed by Paul Clayton on 6 and Nathan Arnold and Jake Moult both on four.

One big note of caution is that the official Workington AFC website reports the Gainsborough victory last weekend as "probably Reds' best performance of the season as they swept aside a useful Trinity outfit in mud bath conditions at Borough Park".

WORKINGTON's line-up in their last fixture, the 4-2 home win against Gainsborough Trinity last Saturday was:
Taylor, Smyth, Langford, May, Andrews, Vipond (Main), McLuckie, Hewson, Arnison, Rogan (Greulich), Wright A (Blake). Substitutes – Murray-Jones and Tinnion (not used).

Scorers were David Hewson, Kyle May, Phil McLuckie and Billy Greulich with his first goal for the club.

ALFRETON TOWN SQUAD:
Chris Mackenzie, Ross Turner, Josh Law, Jordan Hall, Connor Franklin, Darren Stride, Matt Wilson, Scott Garner, Theo Streete, Paul Lister, Kallum Keane, Ian Ross, Laurie Wilson, Anton Brown, Anthony Howell, Jake Moult, Dan Dillon, Paul Clayton, Liam Hearn, Nathan Arnold.
