N E Derbyshire Sets It's Stall Out For Christmas

Thursday 8th December 2011

Shoppers are invited to join in some festive fun - while supporting local businesses - at a series of festive-themed markets being held in North East Derbyshire.

Clay Cross, Eckington and Killamarsh will each host a festive-themed event, as part of a North East Derbyshire District Council project to boost sites across the district.

Santa's grottos, street entertainment, music, prize giveaways from local businesses and a range of stalls are among the attractions on offer at the markets, which are being held on the dates below:

  • Clay Cross Market - Saturday 17th December, from 9am to 2pm
  • Killamarsh Market - Thursday 22nd December, from 9am to 2pm
  • Eckington Market - Friday 23rd December, from 9am to 2pm

Cllr Pat Kerry, Member with responsibility for the Economy, said: "Once again, we're looking forward to some great festive entertainment and family activities, which always pull in the crowds.

"This project is all about helping our markets to thrive - bringing in more visitors and boosting the local economy - and we hope to see people turn out in force to shop at and enjoy the atmosphere of their local market."

The events are part of the authority's Marketing the Markets project – launched thanks to £170,000 worth of funding from the Bolsover and North East Derbyshire (BNED) LEADER Approach, and with support from Clay Cross Parish Council, Eckington Parish Council, Killamarsh Community Trust Association and Dronfield Town Council which manage the markets in their towns.

It is also in support of the council's Buy Local campaign - launched in partnership with the Derbyshire Times to encourage North East Derbyshire residents to spend on their doorstep.

Free car parking is available at all of the sites.
