Ambulance Service Sign Joint Learning Agreement

Freezing conditions over the weekend have seen East Midlands Ambulance Service NHS Trust (EMAS) deal with 900 more calls than during the same period last year. The signing of a Joint Learning Agreement shows a commitment between East Midlands Ambulance Service (EMAS), Unison, GMB and Royal College of Nursing (RCN) to support staff with their continued learning and development.

Phil Milligan, East Midlands Ambulance Service Chief Executive said: "Our service has faced some challenging times over recent years, and one of the ways to move forward from this is through learning and development. That is why the signing of this Joint Learning Agreement is such a significant step."

This month representatives from EMAS, Unison, GMB and Royal College of Nursing (RCN) met at EMAS Headquarters to sign the Agreement.This month representatives from EMAS, Unison, GMB and Royal College of Nursing (RCN) met at EMAS Headquarters to sign the Agreement (pictured left).

It outlines the joint commitment to work together to help source and signpost members to learning opportunities of interest and relevance to them, including work or personal interests to help frontline crews in their day to day experience whilst also aid towards a better patient experience.

Sue Fry, EMAS Non Clinical Development Lead/Learning Coordinator produced the Agreement with colleagues and Union representatives.

She said: "The Joint Learning Agreement means that all parties demonstrate a continued commitment to learning and development in aiding all staff in their future knowledge, skills and new qualifications.

Paul Brown, Unison Branch Secretary at EMAS said: It has been good working in partnership between Unison, EMAS and other organisations to be one of the first Ambulance Services to get a Joint Learning Agreement signed"This will support staff in their current and future ambitions and will mean that the services we provide to local people will continue to improve and benefit from this commitment."

GMB Executive Lead for Leicestershire, Northamptonshire & Derbyshire, Simon Todd said: "The GMB at EMAS were very pleased to endorse all of the hard work our colleagues have done with regard to penning the Life Long Learning Agreement. We welcome any opportunity to collaborate with fellow trade unionists and hope that this agreement will benefit our members by helping them advance their learning skills for their future job progression."
