Chesterfield (22pts) 198-7 [35.5 overs] (D Thompson 63*, J Pipe 33,
R Green 4-93)
beat
Ilkeston Rutland (6pts) 194 all out [49.3 overs] (D Smit 55, D Shelton 33,
T Kirk 3-24, S Lacey 3-43)
by 3 wickets

REPORT: Thompson to the rescue for Chesterfield

Chesterfield kept their title challenge on course with victory over bottom club Ilkeston Rutland but they were made to fight hard for their win.

The early jousts went the way of Chesterfield with Ilkeston slipping to 32 for 2 but the reliable Dave Smit (55) consolidated matters with the help of both Tom Brandrick (21) and Dan Shelton (33). Smit and Shelton were soon gone and the scoreboard showed a below par 141 for 6 and wickets for both Simon Lacey (3-43) and Tim Kirk (3-24) left no space for further improvement and Ilkeston were restricted to 194.

Andrew Flindall's late innings of 27 was beginning to look especially crucial with Chesterfield reduced to 67 for 5 in reply - Rob Green (4-93) and James Lockhart (2-57) inflicting the damage. Salvation for Chesterfield came in the shape of Drage Thompson (63*) and Aaron Jepson (28) and they added a vital 49 for the sixth wicket. Chris Marples (16) helped add a further 43 for the seventh wicket and, with time on their side Brian Gladwin (21*) and the excellent Thompson sealed a three wicket win in the 36th over.

3 D Thompson - 2 D Smit - 1 S Lacey

Dunstall (17pts) 257-4 [50 overs] (J Benstead 114*, T Mandleberg 51)
drew with
Alvaston & Boulton (10pts) 227-7 [50 overs] (S Stubbings 37, C McIlroy 60,
H Adnan 41, C Jennings 4-68)

REPORT: Ton-up Benstead keeps A & B at bay

A second successive unbeaten century from Jamie Benstead (114*), following his unbeaten 101 against Ilkeston Rutland, was enough to earn the major spoils for Dunstall in their encounter with Alvaston & Boulton.

Benstead was joined in the runs column by Tom Mandleberg (51) and Dunstall were able to post a challenging 257 for 4.

A & B were solid in reply but needed a batsman to counter Benstead's ton but the best was Chris McIlroy (60). Steve Stubbings (37) and Hassan Adnan (41) both fell when seemingly well set but a four-wicket haul from Craig Jennings (4-68) left the visitors thirty short on 227 for 7.

3 J Benstead - 2 C Jennings - 1 C McIlroy

Lullington Park (9pts) 163-9 [45 overs] (M Sanderson 55)
drew with
Quarndon (16pts) 192-8 [45 overs] (M Dowman 44, N Dumelow 58,
A Gough 3-42, M Sanderson 3-50))

REPORT: Park come up short again

Lullington Park's poor run of form continued as they were force to hold on for a draw against Quarndon, a team they have never beaten in the Premier League. Graham Dent successfully batted out the last over from Nathan Dumelow but Park remain ninth in the table.

Rain delayed the start and reduced the match to 45 overs per side and Jonny Shales won the toss and had no hesitation in asking his opponents to bat first.

Ex Notts & Derbyshire batsman Mat Dowman set off like a train as he and skipper James Ede put on 73 for the first wicket before both were snapped up by keeper Richard Green off Alan Gough (3-42) who bowled his 14 overs in a single spell. He also had Ben Spendlove well caught at mid-off by a diving Andy Goodwin. Nathan Dumelow was the 3rd ex 1st class cricketer in Quarndon's top 4 and he showed unusual restraint against Park's spinners on a slow pitch, making 58 before being bowled by Paul Dawson in the final over of the innings. Matt Sanderson (3-50) picked up the other three wickets to reach twenty for the season in the first part of his Man of the Match performance.

Quarndon's 192 for 8 would normally be gettable but Lullington currently have too many batsmen out of form and only Matt Sanderson (50) went on to make a score. It was his first fifty in the Premier League but he was eventually eighth man out with the score on 154. Andy Goodwin had gone early, adjudged LBW to Dowman who also had Richard Green caught for 14. James Ede only bowled two overs before replacing himself with the left arm spin of Sam van Daesdonk who bowled James Doherty (21) and had Sam Eaton stumped by Tom Morris. Jonny Shales's bad luck continued with an LBW decision off Dumelow and both Alan Gough and Paul Dawson did not add to the total. Sanderson briefly gave Park some hope with 2 sixes and 4 fours in an impressive innings offering a ray of hope in an otherwise worrying scenario.

Park must hope for better things at Ticknall next weekend whilst Quarndon host improving Dunstall.

3 M Sanderson - 2 N Dumelow - 1 M Dowman

Ockbrook & Borrowash (22pts) 147-4 [40.5 overs] (J Needham 30, J Owen 39*, D Wheeldon 4-56)
beat
Sandiacre Town (3pts) 143 all out [43.5 overs] (N Qureshi 52, R Attwood 33,
T Smith 3-37) by 6 wickets

REPORT: Ockbrook win early title battle

Ockbrook won an early Beechwood Saab Premier League title showdown against previously unbeaten Sandiacre Town to move two points clear at the top of the table.

It was Ockbrook's bowlers who shaped the victory, reducing Sandiacre to a miserable 30 for 4, a position from which there was no way back. Kevin Dean (2-25) and Trevor Smith (3-37) caused the early havoc and Sandiacre skipper Rob Attwood must have quickly regretted his decision to bat first. He made some amends in the company of Naveed Qureshi (53), striking a solid 33 and putting on 67 for the sixth wicket, but from 129 for 6 a miserly Lian Wharton (2-7) and Jake Needham (2-20) brought the innings to a premature conclusion on 143.

Ockbrook in reply had problems of their own with Dan Wheeldon (4-56) reducing the hosts to 34 for 2 and Matt Cassar's dismissal shortly afterwards left the reply in the balance at 50 for 3. But Jake Needham (30) and Jonny Owen (39*) came to the rescue and their fourth wicket stand of 69 left the result in little doubt. Owen remained unbeaten and brought up the win a matter of a few overs later, ably assisted by Ian Darlington (19*).

3 T Smith - 2 J Owen - 1 D Wheeldon

Rolls Royce Leisure (5pts) 201 all out [50 overs] (B Ejaz 46, H Nawaz 42,
S Khan 3-37, R Cowley 3-45)
lost to
Ticknall (22pts) 203-2 [48.4 overs] (P Borrington 84*, Z Abbas 68*)
by 8 wickets

REPORT: Borrington and Abbas seal easy Ticknall win

An unbroken stand of 135 between the prolific Paul Borrington (84*) and Zain Abbas (688) sealed an easy eight wicket win for Ticknall over struggling Rolls Royce Leisure.

Royces never really recovered from two early Sam Jubber wickets (2-27) but they managed to post a reasonable target thanks to Haq Nawaz (42) and Bilal Ejaz (46) who added 91 for the third wicket. But wickets fell all too regularly to Shahid Khan (3-37) and Ryan Cowley (3-45) and Royces had to be content with 201 all out.

Royces needed early wickets after tea but none materialised and Borrington and Khan (29) put on 60 for the opening wicket. Mehmoon Tariq (2-58) gave Royces hope with two quick wickets but Borrington and Abbas timed their partnership to perfection and the win came with eight balls to spare. Borrington hit 9 fours during his 114-ball occupation whilst hard-hitting Abbas fired a six and 4 fours in an innings spanning 92 deliveries.

3 P Borrington - 2 Z Abbas - 1 R Cowley

Spondon (27pts) 253 all out [50 overs] ((n Rigg 62, J Ashdown 34,
N Walden 4-67, T Young 3-73)
beat
Alfreton (8pts) 188 all out [47.5 overs] (A Gwatkin 57, A Mace 35*,
C Windmill 3-64, J Ashdown 5-45)
by 65 runs

REPORT: Alfreton good and bad at Spondon

Third-placed Spondon maintained their challenge for honours with victory over lowly Alfreton who were well-positioned in reply but sank from a healthy 143 for 2 to a disappointing 188 all out.

Spondon had earlier set a challenging target of 253 thanks to some good top-order knocks. Ben Ashdown (26) and Nick Rigg (62) set the ball rolling and the good work was continued by Jack Ratcliffe (24), Sam Kellogg (26) and Joe Ashdown (34). Nic Walden (4-67) and Tom Young (3-73) battled hard to top the list of Alfreton bowlers.

After tea Alfreton made good solid progress despite the relatively early loss of Jake Simpson for 19. Graham Bush (25) and Andy Gwatkin (57) added 73 for the second wicket and a further 43 from Gwatkin and skipper Alex Mace (35*) put the visitors in a good position. Gwatkin's departure left Alfreton needing 111 off 18.1 overs but a second wicket for Chris Windmill (3-64) signalled a disappointing collapse. Survival became the target now but Joe Ashdown (5-45) gave Alfreton nowhere to hide and they slumped to a 65-run defeat.

3 J Ashdown - 2 N Rigg - 1 A Gwatkin

Eckington (27pts) 285-4 [50 overs] (R Pretorius 107, E Alcock 77, A Firth 40)
beat
Clay Cross (2pts) 60 all out [24.3 overs] (W Dye 5-4, J Balfour 4-16)
by 225 runs

REPORT: Eckington too good for Clay Cross

South African Ruhan Pretorius (107) once again played a big part in Eckington's latest performance, cracking a superb century as his side easily beat strugglers Clay Cross.

Andy Firth (40) and Eddy Alcock (77) gave Eckington an excellent start but it was Pretorius who gave the innings added impetus and the home side reached tea on a very challenging 285 for 4.

Jonathan Balfour (4-16) and Wayne Dye (5-4) completely overwhelmed the visitors after the break with only Bil Hartley (12) and Alex Eyre (24) reaching double figures in a very disappointing 60 all out.

Victory for Eckington sees them up to ninth in the table but Clay Cross are now 20pts adrift at the bottom

Marehay (7pts) 148-9 [37 overs] (A Walters 58, J Aspinall 4-23)
drew with
Matlock (19pts) 244-8 [37 overs] (K Leatherday 33, E Lowe 31, B De Wett 94)

REPORT: Matlock denied by battling Marehay

Matlock remain in a strong fifth position despite being denied their fourth win of the season by a battling sixth-placed Marehay.

Matlock openers Kevin Leatherday (33) and Ed Lowe (31) added 62 for starters and a 69-ball innings of 94 from Burton De Wett set up a challenging total of 244 for 8. De Wett struck 2 sixes and 11 fours during his superb knock and Marehay had much to think about at tea.

They made a poor start in reply and slipped to 57 for 3 before Andy Walters (58) and Jonathan Bradder (27) improved matters with a fourth wicket stand of 62. But that was as far as the improvement went with John Aspinall (4-23) then reducing the hosts to 139 for 9. Richard Wood and Dean Mills were forced to bat out the remaining few overs but they did so successfully to earn their side a small share of the spoils.

Sawley & LE Park (5pts) 138 all out [43.2 overs] (S Roberts 34, P Hort 3-27)
lost to
Clifton (27pts) 192-8 [50 overs] (R Mohmand 62, A Chand 31, S Roberts 3-56,
A Rhodes 3-42) by 54 runs

REPORT: Second defeat for Sawley

Sawley & Long Eaton Park's dream start to the season is fast becoming a distant memory and they were well beaten on this occasion by fourth-placed Clifton.

It wasn't the best of batting displays from Clifton but good contributions from Riffitullah Mohmand (62) and Achin Chand (31) were ultimately good enough alongside lesser, but no less important, ones from Matt Wilson (26) and Campbell Ogilvie (27).

Sean Roberts (3-56) and Andy Rhodes (3-42) played a big part in restricting Clifton to 192 for 8 but their side was soon in trouble after the break, Peter Hort (3-27) reducing them to 47 for 4. Sean Roberts (34) battled hard, as did the tail-enders, but wickets for Nic Hopewell (2-16) and Dan Nolan (2-23) took their toll and Sawley slumped to defeat on 138.

Stainsby Hall (22pts) 179-3 [33.5 overs] (A Lynch 94*, T Wood 31)
beat
Elvaston (4pts) 177-6 [36 overs] (C Ault 71, D Randle 32*, R Wood 3-52)
by 7 wickets

REPORT: Elvaston struggle goes on

Elvaston's openers failed to deal with the pace-threat posed by Stainsby Hall’s Junead Zaman (2-42) and they slipped to 11 for 2 and ultimate defeat by seven wickets.

Rob Wood (3-52) kept up the pressure and Elvaston stuttered to 80 for 5 but they made a partial recovery through Charlie Ault (71) and Dan Randle (32) who put on 91 for the sixth wicket enabling their side to eventually post 177 for 6.

Ashley Lynch (94*) and Tom Wood (31) set up Stainsby's victory with an opening stand of 83 after tea and they suffered only minor hiccups thereafter. From 99 for 2 David Smyth (29) joined Lynch in a third wicket stand of 65 and victory followed soon after on the fifth ball of the 34th over.

Staveley Welfare (5pts) 173-8 [50 overs] (J Vernon 62, J Bullimore 58,
D Tee 4-31)
drew with
Rolleston (19pts) 230-2 [50 overs] (M James 32, G Marshall 76*, T Rutter 101*)

REPORT: Rolleston on top at Staveley

An excellent partnership between Tom Rutter (101*) and Gareth Marshall (76*) steered Rolleston to a healthy 230 for 2 against Staveley Welfare, a total that was good enough to earn a haul of 19pts but failed to lift them from their tenth position in the table.

Mark James (32) was again solid at the top of the order. In reply Jake Vernon (62) and Joe Bullimore (58) batted well but Dave Tee (4-31) kept Staveley in check to give Rolleston the lion's share of the points.

Staveley ultimately closed on a fairly distant 173 for 8 to stay in the relegation zone.

Swarkestone (27pts) 269-5 [50 overs] (R Whiteley 36, T Hamilton 55,
J Guthrie 111*)
beat
Denby (2pts) 96 all out [39.5 overs] (B Dilks 4-18, R Whiteley 5-24)
by 173 runs

REPORT: Leaders thrashed at Swarkestone

Denby suffered their first defeat of the Abbey Glass Division One campaign at the hands of Swarkestone who are fast-improving after a particularly slow start to the season.

The foundation for their victory came from Jamie Guthrie's excellent unbeaten 111, an innings that steered his side to a massive 269 for 5. Academy star Thomas Hamilton (55) helped him add 113 for the second wicket and runs for both Ross Whiteley (36) and Tom Poynton (24) took Swarkestone to a strong position at tea.

Bruce Dilks (4-18) and Whiteley (5-24) confirmed Swarkestone's superiority after the break, Denby slipping to a nightmare 37 for 6, and the visitors only partly recovered to a lowly 96 all out. Stuart Poplar (378) stuck around for 70 balls and was unbeaten at the close but Whiteley shot out the tail to leave Denby with a haul of just two points.

Swarkestone move up to second as a result of their win, cutting Denby's lead at the top to just 28pts in the process
