Staveley Look To The Next Game

Thursday 13th October 2011
by TERRY DAMMS

We have moved on after last week's disappointment in the FA Cup with a 3-0 defeat against highflying Hyde FC from the Blue Square North.

After the match, the video recording showed the goals conceded were 'scruffy' with missed opportunities to clear the ball, men losing their markers, a double deflection and a loose ball finding the opposing player unmarked.

The first half revealed that on attempts at goal, the sides were even but, when the second goal went in just 3 minutes into the second half, it was game over.

Today, it's back to the bread and butter of the league, our number one target for this season, but it is not going to be easy for just the one club to get to the top of the pile. To get there it is likely that the club will have to avoid bad injuries and suspensions.

This week our league went public on the poor response to the fair play league and the surrounding events of players getting matches abandoned by refusing to leave the pitch after being sent off, teams having 3 players sent off and 9 cautioned in the same game, even a club chairman squaring up to the opposing team manager in the car park last week after his side were pegged back to 2-2.

What's going on here?

We are urging our managers and players to be sportsmen. This is a contact sport; spectators shout at officials and rarely shout 'well done ref' and that is the sport of football.

We urge our supporters not to use foul and abusive language and certainly not at officials. If you ask a referee whether constant verbal abuse will affect the way he referees he will, if he's honest, probably tell you that they may on a 50/50 call give the decision to the player/side who has not been constantly abusing them and we know this for a fact. Moan at referees all day long and they will go against you.

By all means question decisions if it appears unjust but that must be done in a proper manner and not constantly, or in such a manner to turn the official against your team.

Enough is enough and we really want Staveley MWFC to be top of the Fair Play league and a ground where opposition supporters do like to come to enjoy the facilities, but may not like the result on the pitch!

It was great to see a crowd of 320 last week, with around 100 from Hyde FC, we still managed to get over 200 of our own supporters into the ground and that is testament to the hard work we are putting in both on and off the field.

We are about to launch the Staveley 100 Club that will provide the opportunity to attend sportsmans dinners at the Clubhouse on a Monday or Thursday evening throughout the year.

We are targeting 4-sportsmans dinners per annum, the evening will provide a 3-course meal with tea/coffee. There will be a host for the evening to take us through the evening with a comedian and guest sportsman doing a 45-minute spot on his career with the opportunity of a question and answer section also.

There will be the traditional few games of £2 and £5 envelope games. The prices for the 3-course meal to attend the evening will be a mere £30 per head.

If anyone would wish to take up the 4-dinner option we will discount the £30 x 4 of £120 by 20% to £100 making it a giveaway at £25 per head per evening.

We are in touch with some excellent sportsman well know to the gentlemens evening circuit and trust us, people will not be disappointed with the 3 course meal with a main course of beef, pork or gammon and with a choice of starter and a sweet - together with these high profile sports personalities - we feel this could be such great value for money.

We can seat 100 within the clubhouse hence the name of the entertainment being the Staveley 100 Club. Please watch out for details on our new web site www.staveleyfc.co.uk.
