Baltic Crossing - In Demand And In Chesterfield. Twice!

Thursday 11th April 2013

Baltic Crossing is a fantastic five-piece band made up of young traditional musicians from Finland, Denmark and the UK. Wherever they meet, at least one must cross the Baltic Sea - hence their name - and they are appearing twice in Chesterfield in the space of a few days!

They have played at big festivals such as Womad. and they became the first folk music group to be selected for the ECHO Rising Stars recitals, where young talented performers were hand-picked to play at some of the world's most famous venues.

Baltic Crossing is a fantastic five-piece band made up of young traditional musicians from Finland, Denmark and the UK. Wherever they meet, at least one must cross the Baltic Sea - hence their name - and they are appearing twice in Chesterfield in the space of a few days!

Baltic Crossing's (above) music is high quality, lively modern folk with a distinct Scandinavian / Celtic feel. The band members have a strong affinity for old dance music and respect for each other's traditions, which allows them to bring a new youthful energy to the folk music they perform.

The five piece band delight in introducing audiences to music from each other's countries - they'll bring you fiery Scandinavian fiddles, bubbling Northumbrian pipes and a driving guitar and double bass rhythm section.

The show is a combination of guitar, button accordion, pipes (Northumbrian and Uilleann), fiddles, mandolin and double bass, which is mixed with dynamic stage presence and humorous anecdotes about the tunes.
