The Writing's On The Wall For Dronfield Teenager

Wednesday 20th April 2011

After a graffiti campaign that resulted in more than £5,000 of damage being caused to property in Dronfield, a teenager has been charged and now faces court.

The graffiti was sprayed on garages, houses and business premises throughout Dronfield and Unstone between December 2010 and March 2011.

As a result of work by officers from the Dronfield Safer Neighbourhood Team, local housing officers and school staff, a 16-year-old boy has been charged with 7 offences of criminal damage and 1 of aiding and abetting. He will now appear before magistrates.

A second teenager, also a 16-year-old boy, admitted criminal damage and was given a final warning by police.

Both youngsters have now signed up to Acceptable Behaviour Contracts that run for 6 months.

These contracts list behaviours that the pair must not take part in or they face further police action.

These include behaving anti-socially or causing criminal damage, having items in their possession that could be used to cause criminal damage and being out unsupervised after 9pm.

PC Heather Brown, of the Dronfield SNT, said: "Graffiti is a serious problem that costs a huge amount of time and money to clear up.

"Anyone considering becoming involved in graffiti or any other form of anti-social behaviour should be aware that we will take action against you."

If you have information about graffiti or any other form of anti-social behaviour in your community contact your local Safer Neighbourhood Team on 0345 123 3333 or visit the website www.derbyshire.police.uk.
