Chesterfield Panthers RUFC Match Reports - 10th - 11th December

Thursday 15th December 2011

ILKESTON 3rd XV 53 - 24 PANTHERS 2nd XV

A slow start saw Chesterfield gift five easy tries to the home team to trail
31 - 0 at the break.

The second half was a different story as the Panthers stepped up a gear and playing with much greater determination outscored the home side.

Tries came from Chris Tuckley, Chris Wanford, James Fletcher and Chris Brailsford.

Conversions from Chris Cooper and Nathan Poulton finished off the scoring in a game which would have had a different result had Chesterfield been switched on from the start.

Men of the match were Chris Brailsford and James Fletcher.

PANTHERS 2nd XV 54 - 12 BELPER 2nd XV

A brilliant all round performance saw the Panthers progress to the semi final of the Derbyshire Presidents Trophy with a midweek victory under the lights at Stonegravels.

Taking control from the start tries from Sam Nightingale, Steve Avenier, Adam Knights and Lee Laughton saw them take a comfortable lead into half time.

Belper started the second half stronger and an early converted try reduced the arrears but this just spurred Chesterfield into action and tries from Scott Widdowson (2), Chris Tuckley, Liam Charlesworth plus a second each for Nightingale and Avenier, who also kicked two conversions, completed an outstanding victory in atrocious conditions.

Joint man of the match awards went to Callum Draycott and Adam Knights.

NOTTINGHAM U14's 60 - 0 PANTHERS U14's

The Panthers travelled to take on arguably the strongest team in the NLD and suffered their heaviest defeat of the season - although the score-line doesn't reflect the character and the workman-like performance that they had put in.

The more the score increased, the more the Panthers tackled themselves to a standstill - and that will surely stand them in good stead for the rest of the season.

Nottingham ran in four tries before the break to lead 22 - 0 at half time.

The second half saw the home team run in a further six tries to take the honours.

Man of the Match was Joe Heath

DRONFIELD U12's 38 - 5 PANTHERS U12's

Panthers travelled to near neighbours Dronfield with a weakened team and in the true spirit of the game, their hosts reduced their numbers to give a sporting chance to the visitors.

Playing downhill from the start, Dronfield took control and ran in four tries before half time.

The Chesterfield lads played with more drive in the second period and were twice unlucky not to score through hooker William Hodgkinson before Brendan Potgieter finally crossed the line to give a consolation try.

DRONFIELD U11's 12 - 40 PANTHERS U11's

The improving Panthers team continued their successful season with victory over their local rivals.

Tries came from Oliver Jenkins (2), Harry Hole, Bess Heath, Harvey Fletcher and Ross Booker.

Man of the match was Finbar Irani.
