RESULTS -
BEECHWOOD SAAB ECB DERBYSHIRE PREMIER LEAGUE

Alfreton (5pts) 42 all out [15.4 overs] (K Dean 7-10)
lost to
Ockbrook & Borrowash (27pts) 276 all out [47.3 overs] (J Needham 53,
M Cassar 79, T Smith 35, B Slater 4-58)
by 234 runs

REPORT: Ockbrook overpower Alfreton

A powerful Ockbrook & Borrowash side proved too strong for struggling Alfreton who had an afternoon to forget, crashing to a dismal 42 all out in reply to the home side's 276.

The Beechwood Saab Premier League leaders lost Jonny Guthrie to Nic Walden before the scoreboard had registered a single run but they restored control through firstly Matt Lineker (29) and then via half-centuries from Jake Needham (53) and Matt Cassar (79). Ben Slater (4-58) took wickets in the final run chase which saw a late cameo from Trevor Smith (35 from 38 balls).

Smith then grabbed two early wickets after tea and Alfreton were soon in disarray on 4 for 3 and in the blink of an eye this became 16 for 7 with Kevin Dean in full flow. Dean was to finish with a superb 7 for 10 but not before Jonathan Clarke (17) had given the scoreboard a hint of respectability.

3 K Dean - 2 M Cassar - 1 J Needham

Ilkeston Rutland (1pt) 123 all out [39.3 overs] (A Gray 5-33)
lost to
Alvaston & Boulton (27pts) 297-3 [50 overs] (S Stubbings 119, H Adnan 120*)
by 174 runs

REPORT: Rutland thrashed by A & B

It was all too easy for Alvaston & Boulton at Ilkeston Rutland where they completed an emphatic 174-run victory.

The win was set up by centurions Steve Stubbings (119) and Hassan Adnan (120*) who steered their side to a massive, and match-winning, 297 for 3. It was Stubbings' first century in the Premier League this season but Adnan's unbeaten ton was his third of the campaign.

After the break a second five-wicket haul from Andy Gray (5-33) saw Ilkeston bundled out for just 123 in the 40th over. Ilkeston are now some 13pts adrift at the bottom of the table whilst A & B move up one place to seventh.

3 S Stubbings - 2 H Adnan - 1 A Gray

Quarndon (5pts) 193-7 [50 overs] (N Dumelow 116, C Jennings 3-46)
lost to
Dunstall (22pts) 196-5 [48.5 overs] (J Jennings 34, M Benstead 68*,
M Dowman 3-47)
by 5 wickets

REPORT: Dunstall ease home at Quarndon

Dunstall made it three wins from their last four matches with a hard-fought victory at Quarndon.

Craig Jennings (3-46) and Pakistani Kashif Hussain (2-58) gave Dunstall the advantage early on, reducing Quarndon to 14 for 3, but Nathan Dumelow improved matters by dominating a fourth wicket stand of 80 with a subdued Mohammed Sultan. Thereafter Dumelow fought a largely lone, but belligerent, battle to keep the innings afloat on his way to a superb 116 off just 127 balls. He smashed 8 sixes and 10 fours along the way but the scoreboard still only read a modest 193 for 7 by the time the fiftieth over had been bowled.

Mat Dowman (3-47) proved a tricky customer after the break and Dunstall slipped to 68 for 3 but Matt Benstead (68*) and John Jennings (34) settled things down with a fine partnership of 51 for the fourth wicket. There was still work to do on Jennings' departure but Benstead remained solid and saw his side across the line with five wickets in hand and seven balls to spare. His innings featured a six and 8 fours and spanned 120 deliveries.

Dunstall are now unbeaten in six matches and lie a healthy sixth in the table.

3 N Dumelow - 2 M Benstead - 1 C Jennings

Sandiacre Town (27pts) 217 all out [50 overs] (J Chapman 43, R Attwood 35,
R S Haider 4-58, N Khalid 3-26)
beat
Rolls Royce Leisure (8pts) 184 all out [39.3 overs] (S Venkatappa 43,
N Akhtar 74, R McFadyean 5-28, D Wheeldon 4-51)
by 33 runs

REPORT: Sandiacre eventually too good for Royces

A battling Rolls Royce Leisure fought back from a dire 53 for 6 to give title-chasing Sandiacre Town a scare in their latest Premier League encounter.

Chasing 218 for victory Royces were initially undone by Ryan McFadyean, who went on to take 5 for 28, and slipped to 10 for 3 and 22 for 5 before Srikanth Venkatappa (43) initiated a partial recovery. It was when he was joined by the experienced Naeem Akhtar (74) that matters started to improve and the pair went on to add 123 for the seventh wicket in quick time and the concern was there for all to see on the faces of Sandiacre players. But James Chapman struck a vital blow to remove the stubborn Venkatappa and McFadyean grabbed the all-important wicket of Akhtar a few overs later having removed Shahzada Khan in the meantime. Dan Wheeldon (4-51) was then on hand to take the final wicket and Sandiacre breathed a sigh of relief having completed a 33-run win.

Chapman (43) and John Trueman (28) had given Sandiacre a solid start earlier in the afternoon, opening with a stand of 75 but Akhtar (2-29) and the recently-returned Raja Sohail Haider (4-58) hit back to reduce Sandiacre to a shaky 101 for 5. Matt Gouldstone (23) and Rob Attwood (35) then fashioned valuable runs and the home side managed to post 217 from their 50 overs despite late wickets for Nasir Khalid (3-26).

Ticknall (22pts) 281-3 [48.5 overs] (L Harvey 51, P Borrington 137, Z Abbas 67*)
beat
Lullington Park (6pts) 277-8 [50 overs] (A Goodwin 35, S Eaton 57, T Caron 51, R Cowley 3-81)
by 7 wickets

REPORT: Borrington ton seals Ticknall victory

The combination of Paul Borrington (137) and Zain Abbas (67*) was good enough for a Ticknall victory but the home side had to fight all the way after Lullington Park had posted a challenging 277 for 8 - Lullington's second highest total in five years of Premier League cricket. In the end, though, it was only good enough for Park to secure a haul of 6pts.

Borrington's century was his sixth of the season, already equalling the season's record held jointly by Stuart Poplar of Denby and Ant Woolley of Alvaston & Boulton. During his excellent innings of 137 he passed one thousand runs for the season and is closing in fast on the record of 1,406 set in 1999 by Mark Saxelby of Heanor Town.

Park won the toss and elected to bat and they lost Green early on but Andy Goodwin (35) and Sam Eaton (57) put on 89 before Goodwin lost his middle stump to Zain Abbas (2-57). Eaton added a further 45 with Jonny Shales (25) before being caught by Luke Harvey off the same bowler. Shales survived a confident appeal for a caught behind a short time later but repeated the shot in the next over and went for 25. Tom Oliver found 1st XI cricket more difficult but Tom Caron, on his second 1st team appearance of the season, hit a maiden half century and Alan Gough bustled his way to 27, both at more than a run a ball. Ryan Cowley finished with figures of 3 for 81.

Extras totalling 36, including 27 wides, boosted the total and it was felt that 277 might be enough if Borrington could be dismissed early.

In fact he built his chanceless innings brilliantly and put on 120 with skipper Luke Harvey before Harvey ran himself out for 51 going for an impossible single. Zain Abbas then joined Borrington in another century stand, Borrington reaching his hundred from 107 balls and his remaining 37 in just 23 balls. Borrington eventually fell with the score on 256, missing a straight one from Alan Gough. Shahid Khan thought he had hit the winning runs only to see Sam Eaton knock the ball up at short mid-wicket and catch it at the second attempt but Abbas made no mistake, finishing unbeaten at the close with Ticknall victors by seven wickets and with seven balls to spare. His unbeaten 67 featured 3 sixes and 4 fours and came off just 76 balls.

Lullington now find themselves a little too close to the relegation zone for comfort but Ticknall are up to fourth albeit having played one more match than most.

3 P Borrington - 2 Z Abbas - 1 S Eaton

Clifton (27pts) 192 all out [50 overs] (F Khan 74, J Kyte 3-38, R Wood 3-47)
beat
Marehay (6pts) 142 all out [41 overs] (W Lategan 47, M Camm 41, F Khan 5-28, R Mohmand 5-33)
by 50 runs

REPORT: Clifton up to second

At 31 for 3 against Marehay, a Clifton win was a distant prospect, Richard Wood (3-47) causing the early difficulties, but the home side responded through Campbell Ogilvie (27) and the excellent Faisal Khan (74). James Kyte (3-38) and Ben Perry-Taylor (2-36) kept Marehay in the hunt with further wickets but Will Harvey (25) hit crucial late runs and Clifton managed to reach a fairly respectable 192.

Waldo Lategan (47) and Martin Camm (41) set a good foundation in reply, putting on 89 for the opening wicket, but the introduction of Khan (5-28) and Riffitullah Mohmand (5-33) changed things dramatically and Marehay collapsed to 142 all out although without Kyte (28) the collapse would have markedly worse.

Marehay stay sixth in the table despite the defeat but Clifton jump two places to second albeit 37pts behind leaders Denby.

Denby (27pts) 144 all out [38.1 overs] (C Durham 35, C Bullimore 4-54,
T Bullimore 3-31)
beat
Staveley Welfare (6pts) 136 all out [55.2 overs] (J Greenhalgh 4-30)
by 8 runs

REPORT: Denby fight off battling Staveley

Denby won a tense affair against Staveley Welfare to stay in command at the top of Abbey Glass Division One.

Chris Bullimore (4-54) and Tom Bullimore (3-31) appeared to have done all the hard work for Staveley with the leaders dismissed for a lowly 144 but, after a positive start, Staveley crashed to 136 all out in reply. Runs from Chris Durham (35) and Peter Burgoyne (26) eventually proved crucial for Denby and Joe Greenhalgh (4-30) had a big say after tea.

Jake Vernon (21) and John May (25) were fairly solid at the top of the Staveley order but Jake Sherriff and Paul Allen also claimed vital wickets and the visitors came up short despite defiance from Joe Wilkinson (29)

Elvaston (18pts) 284-6dec [44 overs] (C Ault 123, L Archer 71, J Branson 3-60)
drew with
Clay Cross (11pts) 254-9 [56 overs] (A Eyre 56, C Plant 44, S Lillie 3-61)

REPORT: Elvaston halt the slide

There were plenty of runs at Elvaston where bottom of the table Clay Cross managed, ultimately, to hang on for a draw and a haul of 11pts.

Elvaston were put in by Clay Cross and made a stuttering start, Jon Branson (3-60) reducing them to 20 for 2, but a brilliant stand of 168 between Lee Archer (71) and the superb Charles Ault (123) put the home side in control. Ault smashed a six and 23 fours during his knock and there was still time for a late Dan Randle cameo (29) to push the score along to a declaration at 284 for 6 after 44 overs. Oliver Clarke grabbed two late wickets to return 2 for 14.

Dave Greaves went early after tea, taken at the wicket off the bowling of Ian Hall, but Clay Cross responded through Alex Eyre (56) and Chris Plant (44). Simon Lillie (3-61) kept the innings in check but good late runs from Branson (28) and Steve Eyre (22) pushed the total well past 200. Victory was never really on for Clay Cross, despite having 56 overs at their disposal, but defeat certainly was after Branson and Eyre were dismissed by Matt Archer (2-8). Thankfully for the visitors Steve Gardiner and Oliver Clarke managed to bat out the remaining overs.

Matlock (4pts) 161 all out [45.2 overs] (B De Wett 67, R Pretorius 3-47,
A Leonard 4-21)
lost to
Eckington (22pts) 163-4 [38.1 overs] (M Spencer 55, P Camm 3-41)
by 6 wickets

REPORT: Eckington climb continues

Eckington continued their steady rise up the table with a second victory of the season, the latest at Matlock who were bowled out for a disappointing 161 in 45.2 overs.

Burton de Wett (67) cut a lonely figure for Matlock as Ruhan Pretorius (3-47) and Adam Leonard (4-21) took charge for Eckington.

Peter Camm claimed 3 for 41 after the break but Matlock did just not have enough runs on the board and a Michael Spence half-century (55) was good enough for a six-wicket victory which came in only the 39th over.

Rolleston (22pts) 142-3 [30.2 overs] (M James 77*)
beat
Sawley & LE Park (2pts) 141 all out [43.3 overs] (N Fawcett 58, L Nelson 5-41)
by 7 wickets

REPORT: Sawley go down at Rolleston

The honeymoon period for Sawley & Long Eaton Park is well and truly over, after a great start to the campaign, and they were well beaten in their latest match by struggling Rolleston.

Zac Fried and then Dave Tee (2-39) put Rolleston in control after Neil Fawcett (58) and Sean Roberts (27) had combined well but there was little to follow and Luke Nelson (5-41) reduced Sawley from a fairly healthy 108 for 3 to a disappointing 141 all out.

Paul Allen and Gareth Marshall had both gone after tea with 53 on the board but Mark James (77*) was in fine form once more and, with help from Tom Rutter (25), brought up the Rolleston win by seven wickets in the 31st over. His innings included 14 fours and spanned just 87 balls.

Rolleston are still in tenth-place but now have a cushion of 18pts over eleventh-placed Staveley Welfare. Sawley meanwhile slip one place to fourth.

Stainsby Hall (20pts) 188-2 [40.4 overs] (T Wood 81*, D Wood 34, D Smyth 37*)
beat
Swarkestone (4pts) 184-9 [50 overs] (J Guthrie 39, M Scott 46, J Zaman 3-41,
M Smith 4-25)
by 8 wickets

Stainsby Hall deducted 2 points for slow over rate

REPORT: Swarkestone slip-up at Stainsby

Swarkestone's good recent run came to an end with a disappointing eight wicket defeat at Stainsby Hall and they slip from second to third in the table as a result.

Jamie Guthrie (39) and Tom Hamilton (22) overcame an early loss but Junead Zaman (3-41) was a constant threat and Stainsby gained the upper hand. Mike Scott (46) and Luke Lacey (25) attempted to put the innings back on course but Matt Smith (4-25) regained the initiative for Stainsby and Swarkestone were restricted to a modest 184 for 9.

It soon became evident, despite an early setback, that Stainsby's target was eminently reachable and Tom Wood (81*) set about completing what had begun before the break. With help from both Dan Wood (34) and David Smyth (37*) the Stainsby opener steered his side to victory inside 41 overs, hitting a six and 13 fours during his 134-ball occupation of the crease.

It was a much-needed win for Stainsby, a win that sees them consolidate their position in seventh.
