Warning After Ice And Snow Thrown From bridge

Friday 10th December 2010

"We want to issue a warning that this dangerous behaviour will not be tolerated". That's PCSO Paul Brownlee speaking after snow and ice balls thrown from a bridge over the M1 damaged a number of cars.

Police are now appealing for information from anyone who saw any suspicious activity or items thrown from the bridge on Newtonwood Lane - between Junctions 29 and 28 near Tibshelf Service Station - at around 10pm on Saturday December 4th.

A Fiat Ducato was dinted and a Ford Transit van had its windscreen cracked by lumps of ice as they passed under the bridge.

Police Community Support Officer Paul Brownlee said: "The danger posed by throwing missiles at vehicles from a bridge is unthinkable. It is only due to luck that no one was injured or worse.

"It must have been a terrifying experience for the drivers whose cars were hit. Anyone caught throwing ice or other objects from bridges will be dealt with accordingly. If anyone has information about the incidents please get in touch."

Call Derbyshire police on 0345 123 3333 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
