...Looking Ahead -
Gillingham v Chesterfield

Friday 17th December 2010

Another Saturday beckons, and the Spirieite show hits the road again, this time heading down to Kent and their opponents Gillingham FC - weather permitting of course.

Now back in League 2 after relegation last season The Gills have hit an excellent run of form of late, but only out of Priestfield - bagging wIns from theIr last three away matches. They've fared less well at home though - notching up three consecutive losses in front of their home crowd. So ... surely on paper at least, the 13th in the league team should not pose a big threat for top of the table Spireites.

Chesterfield of course returned to the pinnacle of the league 2 table again this last weekend, after a win against Torquay United at the B2 NET last Saturday.

A previous blip In form had left the team in second place to Port Vale. Now two points clear they will undoubtedly be hoping for another three points to consolidate that this weekend. Their past form at Priestfield is not the best though - they've suffered six straight defeats in past meets - in fact the last Spireites win was 14 years ago, with a 1-0 victory thanks to a last minute John Howard goal.

Gillingham Manager, Andy Hessenthaler has confirmed that they will be without Dennis Oli (hamstring) and Tony Sinclair (Foot). Adebayo Akinfenwa is looking doubtful, with what seems to be a groin injury.

Dean Morgan looks a likely addition to the Chesterfield squad after his  successful run out in the reserve victory over Mickleover in the DFA Senior Challenge Cup. Craig Davies though is doubtful for a starting place but may find himself placed on the subs berth. Jack Hunt may be a possibility at right back, with Ford himself making his way back to Centre half.

Gillinghams two loan signings Chris Whelpdale and Charlie Lee have gone back to parent club Peterborough. Meanwhile the Gills still have the dangerous Cody Mcdonald on loan from Norwich, the young striker has six goals this season including one last week in the 4-2 win over Macclesfield Town.

The weather may be an issue, temps of -4 are predicted in the area the night before, with a high of 2, and light snow on the day itself.

As we preview the Gillingham fans are being asked to clear snow from the pitch and at the moment it's likely it will still will go ahead and the 'Mighty Spireites' will get their crack at another 3 points this weekend.

Kick off at 3pm

Referee -           Darren Drysdale

Assistants -       Adam Crysell
                         Harry Lennard
