Bring Your Product To Chesterfield Market With 'First Pitch'

Monday 8th April 2013

Young entrepreneurs in the borough have the chance to start their business thanks to Chesterfield Borough Council and the National Market Traders Federation (NMTF).

Bring Your Product To Chesterfield Market With 'First Pitch'Chesterfield Market is taking part in First Pitch, a national market trader start-up scheme from the NMTF.

The scheme aims to encourage young entrepreneurs to make their mark in the market and start a successful business on one of the UK's 1,400 retail markets and is open to anyone over 16 years of age not currently trading on a market.

Five successful first pitchers will have the opportunity to trade for free for up to five days during Love Your Local Market Week, which runs in Chesterfield from Thursday 23rd May to Monday 27th May.

They will then have the option to continue to trade on the market for a further 12 months at discounted rent.

During this time, the NMTF will support them by providing a year's free membership, a copy of NMTF First - a practical guidebook to market trading, and a mentor.

Councillor Amanda Serjeant, Chesterfield Borough Council's Executive Member for Leisure, Culture and Tourism, said: Making that crucial first break into the business world has never been more tough. At the end of the 12 months, everyone taking part will be invited to a master class and awards ceremony where one first pitcher will bag £2,000 to boost his or her business to the next level.

Councillor Amanda Serjeant, Chesterfield Borough Council's Executive Member for Leisure, Culture and Tourism, (left) said: "Making that crucial first break into the business world has never been more tough.

"By offering an initial free pitch and reduced rent for up to a year, this will allow five young people the vital step they need to get products to market and start selling."

Anyone wishing to make their mark on the market through First Pitch should contact Andy Bond, Markets Manager, on 01246 345999 or e-mail andy.bond@chesterfield.gov.uk.
