Spireites Look To Winning Ways
Lincoln City v Chesterfield Preview

Thursday 17th February 2011
by PAUL FISHER

Saturday, 19th February 2010
Kick off: 3.00pm
Venue: Sincil Bank

When Steve Tilson was appointed as manager of Lincoln City, the Red Imps were staring towards the bottom of the Football League, only Barnet and Hereford United had worse records.

Three consecutive wins in the middle of November pulled Lincoln away from trouble for the time being, however four consecutive defeats put the Sincil Bank based club back firmly in the mire.

Then new loan signing Ashley Grimes really hit his straps and Lincoln, since the middle of January, have lost once in eight matches and Grimes, on loan from Millwall, has scored 12 goals in his last 14 matches as Lincoln have late hopes of a playoff place.

For those of you wondering Grimes is NO relation to the former Manchester United, Coventry and Luton defender of the same name.

Tilson took over from Chris Sutton in October and took his time to make changes. Tilson had a reasonably successful time at Southend United and lost his job as United went into administration at the end of last season.

Chesterfield meanwhile have their work cut out, although Saturday's match might be useful to them to play with Lincoln's now attacking formation.

Chesterfield will look to favour their away formation with Craig Davies as the lone striker with support from the wings.

Keiran Djilali and Drew Talbot are hopeful of shaking off their injuries, with the possible comeback of Jack Lester from illness, although the veteran striker may have to be content with a place on the bench.

Chesterfield haven't won in five matches, but on Tuesday night the Spireites improved and played much better than they have been, and will look to improve on that with a win at Sincil Bank, for the first time since 2007.

Lester will have happy memories of that night with a superb hat-trick, and it's since his treble on New Years Day that Lester hasn't found the net.

Davies ended a barren period by scoring the games opening goal and John Sheridan has every faith in the striker, "I'm pleased for him as he deserves it, he gives me 100% and all I want is that and the goals will speak for themselves".

Dwayne Mattis is still likely to miss out along with long term injured Dean Morgan who is back in training. Simon Ford continues to be included in the squad despite having a troublesome knee injury.

Lincoln will have former Spireites loanee Trevor Carson in goal on Saturday. Carson played for the Spireites on loan from Sunderland in 2008, he made 20 appearances before going back to the Stadium of Light.

If he starts, Derek Niven will make his 250th league start for the Spireites. Niven who has been in and out of the side recently, started his Chesterfield career on loan from Bolton Wanderers in December 2003, and is currently the longest serving member of the squad when his permanent signing was made in March 2004. He has made over 300 appearances in total for the Spireites.

Tommy Lee made his 100th Football League appearance for Chesterfield on Tuesday night at Bury.

HEAD TO HEAD:
This will be the 100th Football League encounter between the two sides at Sincil Bank on Saturday with the Spireites edging the wins counter.

Chesterfield have won 38 of the 99 battles with 25 draws and 36 defeats.
