Spireites Scoop Yet More Awards

Friday 27th May 2011

It was revealed today that Chesterfield FC has scooped even more awards at the end of a remarkable season, this time at the prestigious Official Football Hospitality Awards 2011 for football clubs in all four English leagues and the Scottish Premier League.

The ceremony, which was held last night (Thursday) at Molineux Stadium, home of Wolverhampton Wanderers, is held in recognition of the efforts and dedication shown by catering, conference and events teams at every UK football club.

The Spireites were honoured with two major awards - bagging a Silver for the Chairmans Award for Innovation and a Bronze for the Media Choice of Media Matchday Hospitality.

The accolade of the Silver in the Chairmans Award for Innovation followed implementation of a forward thinking hi-spec stadium-wide IT infrastructure at the B2net, which is usually the preserve of the super clubs.

Richard Walters of the club's IT partners, Addooco IT Services, collected the award on behalf of the club.  He said: "We are delighted to have supported Chesterfield in pushing the barriers on an aspirational League Two budget as nothing as comprehensive exists at any other football club.

"The unified IP network can support every single system at the club which will include a bespoke customer management system to record every interaction with the fan base and a single database for administering match tickets to smart cards, sales systems to loyalty schemes, conference and banqueting bookings to bar transactions."

Media Manager Geoff Mitchell received, on behalf of the club, the Media Choice of media matchday hospitality. Once again Chesterfield were competing against the big boys as Arsenal won Silver, Man City won Gold but Premiership clubs, such as Aston Villa and Manchester United missed out.

Geoff Mitchell said: "I am so delighted that the Spireites media team has been recognised for providing consistently, over the season, a welcoming and enjoyable matchday experience for fellow professionals in the visiting media."

The Spireites were also nominated for the prestigious matchday hospitality experience but in the end lost out to the overall award winner Celtic.  Divisional winners were Sunderland, Dundee United, Derby County, Walsall and Morecambe.

Conference and Banqueting Manager Gary Cook said: "We were thrilled to receive a nomination in the prestigious matchday hospitality category as it is recognition for the high standards we have set ourselves in only our first season in our new stadium."

He added: "Conference and banqueting is an exciting new area of growing business for Chesterfield FC  and I want to thank everyone behind the scenes as this is a real team effort."

These latest awards are further recognition for the Spireites after an impressive first season at their new £13 million B2net Stadium in which the team were promoted as champions of League Two, Manager John Sheridan was named LMA League Two Manager of the Year, and Head Groundsman Antony Haywood was named Football League Leaguer Two Groundsman of the Year.
